Question about Amazon shipping

How does Amazon shipping work? If I ordered a major appliance from Amazon, will they just drop it off at the front door or does it involve scheduling a delivery and having them gain access to the home? Say something like this as an example:

Have not asked- not sure how to either. I ordered a cooler and it showed up on the front porch in a double box. If they can do the same with major appliances I'm sticking to them for all purchases.

it would be up to the arrangements you made with the seller.  As most of the appliance purchases would be from third parties.  So in that case, as in if you were ordering a Kenmore appliance, maybe a local Sear's (if there are any left) could be contracted to deliver and set up.

 

Otherwise if it is like any of the Amazon purchases I have had they are shipped by either Fed-X., UPS, or USPS.  In some cases with larger items they use a private shipper.  They have all been dropped on the front porch, with exception of the gas grill where the Fed-x driver asked if we would like him to wheel it around back.

In my experience, if it's big enough and heavy enough to be shipped by freight, you'll get a call a day or so ahead of time from the carrier to arrange delivery once it gets to the local terminal.

Was 9 years ago ... the Neptune TL I bought via eBay from an appliance store in NJ arrived via Roadway Express freight truck. Driver called day ahead to confirm date & timeframe.  The area depot is ~1 hr 20 mins away.  Was interesting & unusual to watch an 18-wheeler back into my driveway.  He unloaded it, waited while I opened the box for a look-see.

Good point about the possibility of a third party. One of the reasons I am hoping for a drop off is so the box can be unopened. Call me unlucky, but opened boxes (unpacked) of appliances and furniture were bad omens fulfilled immediately... ie had scratches or dents on them. These were big box store encounters, but once you taste a poor dish you tend to be cautious.

But one thing is for sure about Amazon, the price is unbeatable as well as their service thus far (knocking on wood).

resulted in direct emails from the seller to make sure shipping worked out. Which it always did.

We always got a 'window' within which to expect delivery. Always kept their word.

$146 to unhook a washer & hook up the other washer? OUCH!!!! I see you get a set of hoses at that price. Wow. We deliver, locally of course, include a new set of rubber hoses on all new & used washers, and remove the old appliance, for FREE. We also give you the EXACT (+/- 5 minutes or so) that we will be there.

My biggest question would be who is going to service your purchase under warranty. I know a lot of dealers will not. We are a self-servicing dealer, meaning, we only service what we sell. The biggest dealer/servicer in my area will not touch anything not bought there. Now out of warranty, that is a different question.
