I was wondering if the tub brake in a DD Kenmore can bind up.

The reason i ask is i was washing a load of clothes a couple of days ago and came back at the end of the cycle to find that the clothes did not spin out.

Anyhow i tried turning the tub by hand and then restarted the machine and it worked and has been working fine since.

A lot of you guys would know what is happening here and i would appreciate any info.

I have called a service person out to take a look just in case it is something more serious.

The question i ask is is it the tub brake?..maybe the tranny?

In any case i just hope it is not something major and this machine is ready for the boneyard in just a little over three years.

Maybe there is an oasis or (gasp!!) FL washer in my future LOL

Thanks again
Pat

Whirpools pause after neutral drain to reset the tranny...when the motor restarts, then it should spin.
Could be one of 2 things...the timer is not allowing the pause,(although it did pause to reverse from agitate to drain, or the tranny is not going into spin after the pause. Let me know. Were the clothes wet at the bottom of the tub?

Thank you Coldspot66 for answering. The clothes were sitting at the bottom of the tub sopping wet.

At that point i set the machine for a spin with the lid switched pressed and the machine would sound like it was spinning but the tub and agitator did nothing.

I turned the tub by hand about half a revolution and tried it again and it went into spin just fine.

As far as the agitator spinning in circles, it has not done this. I do not think an article of clothing has escaped as it seems that opening is pretty tight between the tub and cover.

Even when on occasion this machine spin-drains the clothes do not come up high enough in the tub even with a full load.

Though i guess it is possible. Do you think it is worth a service call? As i said it seems to be working fine now.

Thank you for the quick response.

After you turn the tub by hand, does it come up to speed quickly...say within 30 seconds? You may need a clutch lining kit. If the timer pauses after drain, you shouldn't have to give the tub a push unless the clutch ring is worn.

Neutral drain is the dumbest idea that could possibly be thought of...all that soap and crud coming to rest on top of your laundry....what were they thinking?

Well, thank you for that info Coldspot66. The tub does come up to speed as it always had after the timer pause.

Well John300m,..i guess you could be right,...but how many Whirlpool/Kenmore machines had to be disassembled because a sock or or whatever got caught between tubs because of that awful neutral drain.

seriously...does this happen?
i've never known any article of clothing in my entire family or friends to ever go over the edge of the wash basket.
As long as the washer has adequate guarding like a large hump or a perforated shield, nothing should ever go over. and if you're loading laundry that high up in the washer, you're seriously overloading it and deserve any damage that happens to your clothes due to sheer ineptitude.

There must have been some reported incidents with the original spin-drain direct-drive Design 2000. As I recall, the first generation release did not have a clothes guard ring, but it was added on the 2nd generation or some subsequent model revision.

Bitter in aisle one.

Children, play nice.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
There is no need to be so negative, or to down anyone for having an opinion that differs from yours. EVER.

There's a little ethnic ditty grandpa enlightened me with:
He who makes fun of or criticizes others is really making fun of his own mug (or in better English *himself*).

We are all here on this planet to perfect and better ouselves, meaning we are not now perfect. Have a bit of compassion. When you yourself eventually screw-up royally you may need someone else's compassion.

Bottom line is, it's a washing machine. It does not make or break a person's life. There are much more important things in life to concern oneself with.

did you guys seriously find offense to my comment?
if so...well....i'm deeply and profoundly sorry. in addition, lighten up.
