Question for the home

One of the rental property's that I recently purchased has some older particle board cabinets in the kitchen that have some minor scratches and blemishes on them. I don't have the budget to replace them at this time and am not skilled enough to paint them. Does anyone know how I can touch up these spots? Can I use regular wood stain?

We had these kind of kitchen cabinets in our condo before this one. They were really terrible to try and keep nice. Almost from the first week we moved in, and we were the first occupants, the edges started to chip off on the doors and drawer fronts. At frst I tried using those furniture touch up sticks that are really just crayons on various shades of brown. They were OK, but needed occasional reapplication.

Then I tried wood putty, as close to the shade of the cabinets as I could find. This was more durable than the touch up crayons.

Many of my neighbors painted their cabinets and that is really the best fix for the least amount of money. If we hadn’t moved thats what I would have done.

Zar makes wonderful wood stain that I have used to repair some doors in my home and also used it on a steel replacement front door to match existing wood doors in my home with a graining tool. I would try their products and youtube it . Really made my doors look new again.
