A question for the UK members here:

I was just on British Corner Shop and ExPat Shopping, and detergent tablets have completely disappeared from both sites. I also noticed that Persil Aloe Vera has disappeared. The only liquigels I can find are Ariel -- nothing Persil. Not that I need any, I'm quite well stocked, but has something changed on the grocery store shelves over there?

Down In The Laundry Isle....

Hi Peter

Plenty of tabs still about here, not seen the Aloe Vera for a while, but plenty of others...

Tried the New Comfort Creme fabric conditioner with Jojoba, not bad...

Heres the link to the Nations Favourite Store!!!!

AND, the pic....well, The Caption In The Local Rag Says "US Man Arrested In UK Store Found Sniffing Fairy"...lol slaaappp...

Cheers, Mike

Sniffing what????

Oh boy...somebody had better check that guy's pockets on the way out!!! LOL

Sadly, I just used the last of my Fairy liquid dish detergent! :-(

I'm curious to try new laundry products, but given the, oh, 2000 products on store shelves these days, I'd never given much thought to import detergents. Are there advantages to them? Lower sudsing? Better cleaning? More interesting/different scents? Or does it just come down to the fun of using a product from another country? (Which is, by all means, all the reason one would need!)

Thanks for those links, guys!

Gene: The advantage is phosphates! And that they are more geared toward frontloaders (I have a Miele). They are definitely low sudsing, leading to better rinsing. Scents -- they are different, more on the fruity/floral side rather than the "clean breeze" fresh soapy scents that we seem to have Stateside. I love the ease of not having to watch the dosing, as I have to do with my Mex and US detergents that I use. The only thing I don't like is "popping them in the bag" and tossing them in drum. I crumble the tabs in the wrapper, then open the wrapper into the dispenser drawer.

I really, REALLY like Persil Bio. The clothes come out so clean, smelling so clean with a slightly bleached scent (even tho' there is no chlorine in them).

Persil Colour is good, but the scent is more fruity and slightly stronger. I'm kinda on the fence about this one.

I have a small boxes of Ariel Bio tabs, Ariel Colour tabs and Persil Aloe Vera tabs that I haven't opened yet. I really went wild when I placed my order, getting 4 boxes each of 24 washes Persil Bio and Colour that I have been working them down.

Thanks again for the links!!! :)

Hehehe. Ariel is nice too, although the new powder doesn't smell too good, and Persil rinses out better :-). But you can't beat the smell of Ariel liquid :-).

But for powders/tabs Persil is definitely the way to go :-P.

Now, Mike, can you blame me? If you use 2 tabs in a Euro FL that only fills with 4-6 litres of water, why wouldn't you use 4 tabs in a USA TL that fills with 10-12 gallons of water? Just stands to reason is all I'm saying... ;P

The Ariel Bio I have has the new logo on it, but the Ariel Colour I have has the original logo on it (like in the pic with Jon Jetcone). Will there be much of a scent difference?

Is there a difference in scent between the powder and the tabs?

Are liquigels the same as the liquids, only encapsulated?

Peter,

The new Ariel bio powder has quite a stench - I don't like it at all, and the tablets smell much nicer (still have that same "grassy" Ariel smell) - one reason why I changed to Persil powder from Ariel powder as I can't stand the new Ariel smell, and I have noticed that Persil powder seems to rinse out better. I have a feeling that the Ariel liquitabs may have a different formulation, as Ariel bio liquitabs make me itch terribly whilst the liquids don't make me itch at all and are perfectly fine.

Jon

Jon, I am with you!

I tried the Ariel tabs yesterday. They are SIGNIFICANTLY more sudsy than Persil and did take longer to rinse out, showing a pretty good amount of suds in the 3rd rinse (softener in the 4th rinse cleared it all out). There was even a sudslock after the 2nd rinse, which I never had happen before. I don't care much for the scent either, kinda musty to me. But I do like that they dissolve in the dispenser drawer.
