Hi folks! Long time lurker who loves reading the threads and lusting after some of the amazing appliances in your collections, yet never having any of my own.....until now!

Recently, I purchased a 1955 Spartan Imperial Mansion 45ft long travel coach that is like a time capsule with all the original appliances and manuals (including the HW heater). I am looking to respite it and keep that "time capsule" feel which means trying to restore the appliances as well. So that brings me to my Frigidaire that has been in there since 1955:

As you can see from the pics, it probably fared the poorest out of the appliances (the other ones are a Preway cooktop and wall oven), having been sitting in humidity down in Florida. It does work and gets amazingly cold amazingly fast after having not been plugged in for over 30 years.

I am certain after having read through these threads that painting the exterior is doable, but as you can see from the pics, the interior is a bit scary. The dirty part is easy enough to address, but most concerning is the panel in the door. There are multiple cracks. So here are a few questions after that long-winded explanation and intro!

What type of paint is best used on the exterior?

Are the cracks in the door repairable with some sort of epoxy and perhaps sanded then gloss painted a close enough color? Or do I need to try to find a "donor fridge" to pull a piece out of?

It looks like someone jerry-rigged the pull handle on the front as it is missing a piece at then by screwing directly into the plate (ugh). Is that repairable or also try to look for a donor plate?[this post was last edited: 4/6/2020-14:58]

That's a very nice fridge and super delighted you're keeping the original appliances in place!

Honestly - you could leverage the builtin nature of this install and just take the door off, and have it painted. That's really all that shows when the fridge is in place.

I've taken the door liners to a bodyshop, where they used fiberglass and epoxy resin to restore the cracked panel. They then sanded and painted it gloss white and it looked like new.

I don't have these skills and can't tell you "how" just what I did to fix a similar problem.
