I know some of the 1980s and 1990s side by side refrigerators had a small access door on the refrigerator. GE seemed to be the most common with it. Any idea why this was done away with? I Googled quick access door, milk door, etc and I saw some older looking GE models that appear to be still available for 220V countries.
I know some of the newer french door fridges have a sort of door within a door that can be opened by pressing a button first on the handle.
Maybe this is why the quick access door on side by sides went away, because french doors took over as the "fancy and upscale" fridge during the 2000s.
Myself I'd rather have a side by side than a french door, but I suppose that comes down to preference. But I can remember when some top freezers even had ice and water dispensers on the door. These days some have water dispensers inside but you don't see any with ice and water on the freezer door.
