Now is the time to consider features you want

I'm in the market for one also, my SXS is 23 years old and heading out soon.....

Sears had one I liked, ice and water thru the door, but what has got my eye is the options of ice, small or large half moon cubes, and then select CUBED, CRUSHED, OR "SNOW CONE" for slushies....I would rather have the name brand rather than get Sears Kenmore name on it, and that expensive Maintenance Agreement...other places offer it cheaper!

I like to thank all of you for your help.
It was a challenge to get something quick as my food is in two ice chests and a Haier mini freezer. It's a darling little thing and it's working quite well for a $149.99 unit.

Anyway, I got the GE Model GSH25JSXSS at the low price of $ 1079.10 With the help of Charlie, thanks for the tip.
And I'm waiting to delivery today so wish me well!

I thought my 19 years old Kenmore water heater would go first, but it just doing the job quite well!

It happened again, this time 14 years later.

Here I go again.

It's just my luck for another unit to fail before the 20-year mark.

This unit failed because the water line broke near the solenoid behind the refrigerator, shortening out the inverter box. I thought the water line in the door area had frozen again, so I used the heat gun on low to defrost the door area. I heard the water go through the system, but no water coming through the door. I tried several times with no luck. The next day, there was water on the floor on the freezer side, and everything started to melt, though the refrigerator was still cold then. Everything was lost because the compressor was not cycling, yet the fan and the defroster were working.

Long story short, GE is no longer making the inverter (<span style="font-size: 12pt;">Part #WR55X10979)</span>, so I had to search the wild for a replacement part. The part is universal, with a substitution connection that did not work. As you know, I had to find a new unit on Amazon and match the 3.3A for a perfect match. I installed the new part, and the first Ice from the Ice Maker happened. Yes!

Reminder: When you clean your coils once or twice a year, check your water line for hardness connected to the solenoid. Under the right circumstances, this pex line will eventually break and may cause problems.

Also, I updated the three bulbs to LED, and I must say that it whitened the interior like a new fridge.

Replacement inverter for a GE refrigerator

These GE refrigerators are pretty good units, the inverters tend to run a little hot as you can see from the old one and they fail overtime. The water could’ve done it in of course, but it’s not unheard of for them to just fail.

I assume you still have the back panel on your refrigerator if the back panels not in place, they tend to ruin the plastic tubing and the inverters a lot faster. They need the back panel for proper airflow circulation.

You shouldn’t have to clean the condenser in this refrigerator more than every five years or so this design was designed to run with a lot of dirt on it of course it never hurts if something is clean, but it won’t work any better until it becomes severely blocked.

Glad you were able to get this working. I would estimate the life of a refrigerator like this to be in the 20 to 30 year range. I’ve yet to ever see a bad compressor on one of these inverter models so you shouldn’t have to worry about the compressor at least.

Thanks, John,

My home is heated/cooled with central air, and the dust in this place is horrendous. I change my filter regularly; it's just how this house was built. My PC collects dust on the inside like no other, and it needs cleaning once a month, or I will be able to grow grass without a problem.

I'm glad this unit is working as it should. I've read the reviews on the GE website for this model, which are primarily negative. Before replacing the rear cover, I replaced the weather strip between the compressor and the coil fan for a better seal. My next task is to disinfect the waterline since my water is on well and it is funky. P-U!

I've been thinking about installing a long-term water filter system and possibly reverse osmosis next year.

Oh, my honey-do list continues to grow, and the care of doing stuff is waning at my new age.

That probably saved you $500 in repair costs. Do you have sulphur in your water that stinks, particularly when you use warm/hot water? My sister had that problem out on the farm..so bad when she did laundry I couldn't go in her house it was that nauseating. Fixed it by having some sort of spray mechanism that sprayed the well water into a below ground cistern. Spraying releases the sulphur gas and now there's barely if any stink in her house. A big iron filter might help as well. That's what we had on our well and it got rid of our light sulphur smell that wasn't as bad as sis's

I sure did save a few $$$. The part was close to $200, and a service tech call would take a day or two to arrive with a look-at fee of whatever.

I've been down for about five business days. Anyway, I'm just starting a staycation to do some odds and ends that I've been putting off.

The old Subaru needs a total oil change (trans, front and rear diffs, power steering fluid, and engine oil), as well as the kitchen and bathroom faucets and shower gasket kits.

I have my work to do, one project at a time.

Our little piece of this town is on well water piped into our dwellings. High iron content has been a problem for years, Pete.

So, very little can be done unless a whole house filter is installed.

Homeownership is a full-time job, yet the trade-off is the peace from the noise of city-dwelling.
