Our 8 year old Hotpoint WM53 sadly passed away. The circuit board has broke.I tried to do a load of whites and it started to make a funny noise and tried to spin full of water. When i tried a different program, it wouldn't move.

So a very sad goodbye to our old and faithful Hotpoint WM53 P

Details:

AAC rated
5kg load
1200rpm spin speed
WM 53

Goodbye old friend(sniff,sniff)

Please check the brushes first! Failing that the motor tacho magnet could be loose, it does not necessarily mean the circuit board has gone!

Tom

Sorry hotpoint9534

It is completely broke. One of the suspension arms has gone aswell.I am very sad.We could get it fixed but i doubt it.

Keep the comments comin

You still haven't checked the brushes though have you?

Of course it can be mended, the WM series construction was based on the original 70s liberators and were designed to be repaired easily.

I give up!

...

We need a bigger capacity and faster spin speed anyway.I would love to keep though.I will take some pics of the inside and outside(panel, drum etc..).

So you want to keep it yet you don't. You don't want to answer my question and you don't want to be helped really!

Faster spin and bigger capacity is the same poor excuse too many people come up with.

Okay EASY GUYS!!!!!
First of all. Maybe just check if it can be repaired. And if it is possible (well it's always possible), just think about if it's useful to spend money on a reparation (or what's the word), or just buy a new machine. If it's a simple repair, why not do it yourself and sell the machine, if you want faster spinning and bigger capacity!

Askomiele...

Thankyou for understanding!

Unfortunately,it looks like a big fault. Now the drum wont turn on 1 program and the motor doesn't do anything either.I know its not the brushes because it tumbled fine until this morning and when you turn the drum,it sounds fine.

the brushes went on my Ecologic

and in 2 loads it went from being fine to not tumbling whatsoever and the drum will still sound fine when turned by hand if the brushes are broken. If it does tumble then it will make a crackling sound as the brushes are sparking.
As far as I know these machines don't have much in the way of electonics so it seems unlikley for it to be the circuit board.

If its not draining the water out, perhaps the pump has jammed. Our WM52 had a replacement pump within a year.

It would be a very cheap and very easy fix in these machines.

Also what do you mean by one of the suspension arms is broke? That would be the more serious fault!

If it's never needed new brushes in it's life I'm very impressed, our WM52 went through 2 sets in 4 years!

Matt

Shame to get rid of this machine as they are very repairable, this machine is so much better than the latest hotpoint (Merloni)machines with large capacity drums and huge spin speeds.

Your loss really saying goodbye to this good machine without getting a pro to look at it.

was it the 1200 first edition model, i had one and it was fantastic so i can see why ur sad i was sad because we upt to the 6kg aquarious wf220, as seen on my youtube as crushu2D which was useless.

electron800,

It did make a strange noise when it was tumbling. What i mean when i say the suspension arm has broke is that it makes a very loud (next door can hear it!)metallic banging noise sometimes when it spins at 1200.

I dont think it is the brushes because when we tested it,it got to a certain point when the timer wasn't moving either and when it stopped last week,i turned it off and on again and it tumbled fine.It was fine until the final spin.

well personally I think it sounds like it would be worth get

I'm sure it's nothing too drastic. As for a metallic banging noise ours did this from new. From my experience these machines are utterly useles at balancing and mine shook itself to bits on spin. I remeber seeing on Watchdog when these machines were being sold that customers were having a great deal of trouble with deafening noise on spin with some machines, and Hotpoint were telling them there was nothing wrong with it!

Some of them seem to spin ok but I think it's luck of the draw, sounds like you got a noisy one like we did. May be worth getting it checked out if you call someone in to look at the other fault.

Hope you do get it sorted, these are very fun machines and full of character, even if they do rattle themselves to bits on spin :)

Matt

electron800...

To be honest,i really love this machine. For me it is better than logics and electrons.Sadly,i think its time is up.

However there is a spark of hope that we could get it fixed.

We have decided...

The Hottie is going.(sniff sniff)

I will take pics of the inside and outside and upload them here.So....

GOODBYE HOTTIE!
