R.I.P. Kitchenmore

Well, a few months ago, I found a turquoise wide based KitchenAid agitator and I put it in my DD Kenmore. My Kenmore as a 4 speed combo selector knob:
1) Delicate(slow/slow)
2) Regular (slow/fast)
3) Heavy Duty (fast/fast)
4) Hang Dry (fast/slow)
(wash speed/ spin speed)

Anyway, I put a neon orange sign above the washer saying not to use the Heavy Duty or Hang Dry settings as it may ruin the transmission..... Mom didn't see the sign and washed a load of jeans on heavy duty. I saw the aftermath, a very clean load of jeans and a very sad looking washer. I decided to try it with nothing in it on thr regular/delicate wash speed. It filled up and switched to agitation, sadly it now squeals endlessly and every once in a while it will begin to slow down a bit then snap back to speed. I don't think it's gonna be able to do much for long... Oh well, I guess I've got room for a real vintage washer and hopefully I'll stumble upon a real KitchenAid someday...

Jamie, i think your audience is asleep, HELLOOO! Where are the Kenmore freaks? is what Jamie describes the famous Whirlpool drive spline failure?

I thought the trannys are the same on WP/KM vs. KA, and that KA has a beefier motor and capacitor to deal with the extra load. Maybe whatever went wrong isn't related to the agitator being changed?

Sounds like the tranny is about to blow.
Replace the tranny with a ebay special!

Does the motor ever shut down while it's running now? Glen is right, the tranny is the same (and very easily replaced) but the KitchenAid motor is able to handle this agitator on medium speed for "normal/fast" agitation in their models. If you find a donor machine with a three-speed motor, you can use the good tranny and motor to make your Kenmore like-new again - and put the Kenmore agitator back in when you're not there to supervise ;-)

That's what i call mine, and I love it just like you love yours. This machine has the same four speed options as yours does, only it's pushbutton rather than rotary. Normally, it stays on slow agitate, but I press the fast button a lot just for kicks, and always when i do a suds-return--nothing quite like it.

There is a lamp above the machine for careful illumination of the wonderful views, but if I leave the speed on fast too long, the light blinks.

A few months ago, Greg (Gansky) warned me about motor damage, but he's telling you it's okay to use the KA agitator, so I hope he'll clarify bacause I'm missing something, and he is a supreme techno pro.

Hope you get your Kenaid Kitchenmore back up to speed.

Greg, no the motor never actually shuts down, it does change pitch and speed, of that I'm sure, however, the machine seems to be on it's last legs anyway... I'm not too sure I'm going to bother with it. the water level switch is going and the water level is getting higher and higher, it's not a hole in the pressure hose, it's something to do with the pressure switch itself, it's slowly rising with each wash and it's often mistaken for being the Fisher Paykel... (I have no CLUE how that mistake is made...) And the Fisher Paykel is the main machine. If it gets mistakenly used and overflows, mom'll have a fit. Another issue is that it's starting to leak a lot, I tried resealing the pump, but it seems to be coming from somewhere else. The machine is becoming a big pain in the ass, I will probably save it for parts or for repair sometime in the future. In the meantime, I think I'm just gonna retire it to the storage room along with my GE Filter Flo... Besides, I've got two true vintage machines headed my way and they need to go somewhere!
