Cybrvnr:Thats interesting the K-Mart in that area shut down-when did it close-Remember using that store-was one of the larger ones in the area.did they move somewhere else in that area?How-bout the Hechingers store-they had a large one not too far from that K-Mart.Remembered it too-from the 60's.They even had Maganavox Hi-Fi consoles there!!Liked listening to them.that Greenline subway stop would have been handy for the times I lived there-You had to catch a bus or cab to another stop-.I lived in Northern VA the last time I lived and worked in DC-Was in the Manassas Va area-was very nice.But glad to be back in NC.The commute to the transmitter is a lot easier and more pleasent-a drive thru the country-have to dodge deer and bear though.

The stores in Marlow Heights, etc.
K-mart, the various food stores closed in that area years ago, shoplifting, etc. was rampant. Hechingers went out of business all over the area due to Home Depot/Lowes.. They had just completely flattened the old building and built a new one too... took over the old Ourisman storage lot, etc. Service there was terrible in the last few years though.. Most every large store in the area has been bought/leased by different small churches. That is who took over the K-Mart store after it was boarded up for years. (K-mart moved down to Clinton) While that is in a way nice, the tax base for the county shrinks.
Hechts is now owned by Macy's.. so will be gone too soon...
The federal area in Suitland is getting a lot of new buildings to replace the old WW2 era stuff, so that is good for that area, but less than one mile away, towards PA ave. they have the worst crime in the state.
I think over time, with the new metro stops on Auth road and at the Suitland fed. center that area will be much better off. In the last years, property values have finally started to take off to catch up to the rest of the DC areas.
