Hey Everyone:
I need a 1955 GE refridgerator restored, and want to purchase a restored gas range...
I have tried most of the appliance restoration places with websites, and they have VERY LONG waiting lists. YEARS long waiting lists.
Would prefer to have a kitchen with appliances sooner than this, does anyone know of anywhere that restores appliances but doesn't advertise on the web?
There is a place locally in Georgia, but they have a 2 year waiting list for custom restorations.

Thanks,
felinefrenzy

You might try "Recycle This" Jack Thering is the owner and he restores ranges, Address is 12227 Main St. Rt.5 Akron, NY 14001 his phone number is 716-542-1684.

It depends on how much you want to spend on a range, they can be very expensive. There are a few listed on ebay, in the "ebay stores" section that are done. Macys Classic Stove Works in Houston might have some:5515 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77004
Phone: (713) 528-1297

Does the fridge work? If not, have an appliance repairman see if it is fixable, if not get another - they are often on ebay for less than $100.00, you just have to have them shipped, whech can be expensive.

If it works, you can remove the chrome and send it away for rechroming. See if an employee at an auto paint and body shop would be willing to paint it on the side, or a student in a paint and body program at the high school or junior college. Your local appliance repair shop can help you find a new door gasket.

I finally found a place in Tucson, AZ that will work in my time frame!
They have a guy who lives here, and travels to Tucson to do the repairs. He might could tote the fridge.
The fridge is in perfect operating condition, we paid $100 for it. The exterior is now rusty and bubbled, but the interior is excellent. All we need is an exterior renovation, however the place in Tucson says they do replace the compressor so that someone local could fix if it ever broke down.
I needed to find a place that could do custom colors. Not every place wants to give you a bright orange fridge and stove.

It is expensive, but it's my dream kitchen. I've been waiting for 10 years to have my fridge and entire steel kitchen refinished. We don't own much anywhere in the house that is modern, just a few small appliances.

When the basement gets finished, we will have our vintage Maytag washer and dryer re-painted too (luckily, they can do that on the driveway!!!)

Thank-you all. The fellow in NYC has a very tantalizing selection. I'm going to give him a call tomorrow.

Thanks!
FF
