When we replaced our old 1940's Hotpoint range with the latest thing from GE. I was about 10 years old and thought we had just hit the future at hyper-drive speed. Of course the fact that I had just returned from seeing Forbidden Planet when the range was being delivered added to the feeling. It was a 40 incher with two ovens. It's biggest space age feature was the rows of lighted buttons instead of knobs to control the four heat coils.(no Virginia, there was no soup pot) The Hi button lit up red when pushed, then next button was medium high, and lit up orange, medium was yellow, low was blue and warm was green. Two round chrome function/temperature knobs for the ovens were on each side of the clock. It was a beautiful appliance and lasted for years, but was replaced by a 40 inch Turquoise Flair, a la Bewitched, when it failed to fit into our new kitchen's design and color scheme.
