I found this interesting dryer on my local craigslist forum, at one of the used appliance stores. I've never seen this particular dryer before. Thoughts?

this was Sears' All-American (pairs nicely with any washer) back in the 1960s and 1970s.  My neighbors had this dryer when they moved next door to me in 1988.  Most featured soft heat, signal, and some had wrinkle guard.

Dave, there was a matched pair that had a similar style console panel.  the pair was much higher up in the line.  It was an alphabet washer with timed dispensers and soft heat dryer.  Console had a light on it.  In addition to the timer dial, the auxilliarylittle kinobs were water level and water temperature option adjustment on the washer and variable signal sound level and possibly a 2nd knob for heat or air.  There was also a little door that slid across to conceal the controls and give it an unobtrusive look.  Friend of mine from college, his mom had the washer.  I don't believe the above mentioned dryer came in anything but white.  As it was the all American, match-all dryer.

Well, that, then, is what this family had--the washer got replaced by a series of not-so-fancy Whirlpools, while the (supposedly gas) dryer seemed to have lingered until a gas White-Westinghouse sat around for almost another eternity, until just when I thought a GE might be its successor, a Whirlpool took its place, with a Whirlpool washer (they went through a lot of washers in that house--WP was most loved!) and all these follow-ups to the hidden-control Kenmore-set were in White...
