Those are really rare to come across these days. My grandparents had an older version of this machine with the rotary phone dial selector.

WP Portable DW

This is the same machine that I found a year or so ago only one year older, this one should be around 1966-7. These were excellent performers but diffidently could have durability problems, fortunately the one I found had never been used so it will serve well as a demonstration DW at the museum.

 

The earlier WP DWs with the telephone timer dial were very cool DW but were not the same as these in any respect. The earlier WPs had a plastisol tubs and completely different pumps that WP did not build. The impeller models used the GE pump and motor with the bow-tie SS impeller and the better models used a Gorman-Rupp pump with a single Bakelite lower wash-arm.

The house i grew up in had all RCA Whirlpool appliances.

The house i grew up in was built in 61' and had all RCA Whirlpool appliances.

The built in dishwasher was SO LOUD i could hear it from outside when walking up the driveway.

There are still quite a few houses in the hood that still have their RCA Whirlpool cooktops and wall ovens.
