I've seen at least new to me, since I don't have to worry about the issue, a new type of Garbage Disposer.
It is made by In-Sinkerator and it is specially made for Septic Tank usage. I saw them at one of our newest local Home Depot Stores the other day.

I haven't investigated them as far as to find out how long they've been avaiable, but it is good to see that Companies are trying to come out with new featured Appliances, etc for everyone's needs and uses.

I hope that this is even news to some of those who do have Septic Tanks and that this will not be something that might cause problems later on, although they shouldn't if they are effective at what they are supposed to do.

Steve, that model has been on the market now for 3 or 4 years, you have to buy refill cartridges of liquid bacteria. I guess it dispenses a little with each usage. It's much cheaper to just buy septic tank bacteria powders in bulk and drop a teaspoon down every week or two. I also have some that hang on the inside of the toilet tank like tidy bowls that dispense bacteria with each flush.

Disposers

I always thought that all disposers were septic friendly. When I saw that ISE disposer with the bacteria pac I wondered how well that would work. Well my sister got one and she isnt one to keep up with replacing the cartridge...she has not had anything go wrong with her septic tank...yet.
We got a Waste King gourmet disposer that I love. I would rather have a Waste King disposer than an ISE anyday. I have had both plus I have had a KitchenAid one ...much like what the Viking disposer is today..that was a good pig..fell off the sink once while grinding bones...but that is another story..lol

New disposers

I've got another new one under my sink these days, a Whirlaway PRO model 984, same as the Waste Kings these days with the high rpm motor. ISE's run at 1725rpm, the WK and Whirlaway at 2700 in 3/4 hp form.
I like it, its a bit noisier than the ISE was, but it chews fast and so far has taken everything I have given it.

My mom has used a (regular) disposal with a septic system for years with no problems. I need to get down under there and see what kind it is. It's not an ISE and I don't think it's a Waste King, but it's good.

Thank you for the update on how long Septic Tank use Disposers have been out, they as mentioned were something new too me, but since I didn't have to deal with a Septic Tank, I've never had to think about special featured Appliances for that kind of use.

I bought a Maytag Model #DFC5000AAX 1/2 hp or 3/4 hp Auto Reverse Grind Disposer in 1995, when I did a lot of updating and Remodeling at my Family house I'm living in now, that I Inherited a few months before. I've never had any problems with it at all and it sure Grinds everything up quite fast. I would certainly suggest a Maytag, however I've had real good luck in the past with some ISE Model #77 that also had an Auto Reverse Grinding.

I have actually an all Maytag Kitchen, other than a couple of my Microwaves that are a 1991 Sharp Micro/Convection and a 1980 Jenn-Air made by Tappan {26-year old} Mechanical Magnatron Power and Timer Control's one that was my Parents. Theirs was a promotional special deal when they had Central Heat/Air Installed, they got the Microwave for $99.00 from the CH/AC Company.

I was also just given an older Panasonic Micro/Convection Oven, but I've not had time as of yet to check it out, to see what's wrong with it.
