Re: Maytag Washer Tub Leak:
Hi! Austin, this Washer and Matched Gas Dryer is about 8 to 10 years old and as far as I know, this is the first Break-Down. My Friend and his Family of {3} total are avid Cross-Country Skiiers, Biker's {Bicycle's} and Travel quite a lot when they are able to go onto Vacation's. He always likes to bring a lot of the Laundry home to do in their Washer and Dryer, so they really get a "Work-Out" especially with Heavy Comforters and even Sleeping Bags. He would have asked me before, if they had any other problems with their Washer or Dryer. I've been actually working several times last year on his Parent's LA-710 Maytag Washer, and some on their LDE-410 Electric Dryer that were bought around early 1980s. It has the older Helical Drive and the more Traditional Tranny. I did notice during one more recent Repair time that the Tranny housing had their last name and a Date written on it, with possibly a Felt Pen. They must have had the Tranny replaced before I took over doing the Repair's as their "Ol'Lonely" Maytag Repairman...The Dryer has basically been cleaned out and a new Belt, otherwise it ahs been quite "Dependable" for them thru the years. The Washer had a leak in it once and it ended up being the Bleach Dispenser Tube. It had come apart where it fits onto the Dispenser/Filler opening underneath, so I used a Worm-Screw Clamp to hold it on. The other problem that they were having more recently last year was when she would do a Smaller/Heavy Load of Bath Towels, it would trip the Out-Of-Balance Switch and the Plastic Parts would separate. They bought the new set of the Plastic Pieces and they started doing the same thing of coming apart. I contacted the Appliance Store and talked to the Service Manager and he told me that it would be better if she would wait until they had a much larger load of Towels to Launder. I've not heard back from them for a while, so I'm guessing she is trying to wait until getting a larger load of Towels to Launder, "Problem Solved" at least for now.
The Son's newer Dependable-Care Set I believe has the slopped front like the Neptune's and the Atlantis, but it is before the Atlantis time, I believe. I did ask my Friend if he knew if the outer Tub was Plastic or Metal and he told me it was Metal. He had taken off the Front Access Panel to see about where the Leak was coming from and it was trickling down from the center of the Tub, onto the Tranny housing and from there naturally to the Floor.
Sorry to hear about your Washer, especially being only a couple of years old. Maybe yours is just a broken Hose!!!
"Good-Luck" with your Leaky Washer, please update me adn the others as to what you find out.
Peace and Happiness, Steve
