Well I finally had time...or rather took time to make these,This Recipe came from Donalds Maternal Grandmother, otherwise known as MaMaw!! Geneva Nance 1905-1989. These were NEVER baked in anything but a wood stove, in fact ,she never cooked on anything but a wood stove, I had to buy groceries for this one, first I had to get real home made molasses, not those old thin excuses you get in the store, then real lard!! They are hard to make, but GOOD!!!

Recipe.

2 cups molasses
1 pound brown sugar...2 1/2 cups
1/2 pint lard melted ...1 cup.
1 TBSP soda
1/2 TBSP Cinnamon
1/2 TBSP cloves
1/2 TBSP ginger
mix well, add flour to make a VERY STIFF DOUGH!!! about 5 cups . Dough must be stiff enough to not be sticky, about like play dough! roll PAPER THIN! I made a few thick for Don to dip in milk, but they are supposed to be about as thin as a cracker when done, bake 350 for about 10 minutes on lightly greased sheets.cool on wire racks.

Oh Yeah!!

Dont make the mistake I did the first time I tried these, I used Grandmas molasses and Crisco and they were a disaster!! you have to use real lard and real old fashioned molasses, people make them around here so they are not too hard to find.

I just looked at my pictures!!!!!

Look at the second one I posted!! NO ONE WAS STANDING BEHIND THE TABLE WHEN DON TOOK THIS!!!!! I wonder if MaMaw decided to see if I could make her cookies. WEIRD AINT IT!!

Hans, I bet those cookies are delicious!! The smell while baking them must fill the whole house with a wonderful aroma. That second picture is really neat. I bet you are right and she is watching!!

glad I wasn't there-I would Have DEVOURED those cookies-love those types of cookies. Those are so good -Just cooked and HOT from the oven!!!Since that is "eggless" dough-I have been known to eat the raw cookies too.Guess I will have to warm up my oven and Viking mixer-haven't cooked a batch of those in years.Usually at Christmas and thereabouts bake the Molasses-Ginger cookies.Instead of rolling the dough-formed it into tablespoon sized balls and dipped it in suger-then placed on the greased cookie pan.I also have a recipe for those or similar-that you use eggs.
