Love the shots of the spray rinse; never tire of them. And the rollers in the rear-end shot are always a pleasant surprise.
Had no idea there was a speed shift like the one in the multimatics. How cool!
What would be great, when you & Steve do the vid, if you could use maximum fill with a giant load, the way Joe L. does. Wouldn't that be fun to see?

I think we need more high quality videos of 1-18's in action uploaded to youtube. There are less than a handful that meet the HQ/HD qualification.

I think I have the '76 version of this machine
Got mine for a whole $25 including delivery. That's how bad the guy wanted to get rid of it. He dropped it on my driveway while I was at work and I mailed him the check. Easiest pickup I ever had to do.
Mine looks good now but it was NASTY when I got it. I think it came out of a trailer house that was badly taken over by mice. I think quite a few lived in this poor 1-18 but it cleaned up nicely and works like a champ.

Thank you, so much for posting. As I stated, the washer works well, but slows and speeds up during agitation, and is slow to start when draining, but, gets up to spin speed very well.
Wash agitation remains constant without clothes.
LOVE your 'shaded sage' Frigidaires.

Mine is just like yours but maybe a little newer as it has "energy saving settings" with all cold designations in blue as is the graphic for load size. On maxi, dry clothes can be to very top of tub but water won't be, that's correct. I rarely have anythng to wash that requies the water control to be set higher than half way between small & med. At that setting, water is usually just all pumped out before it shifts into high spin. At mini or small water setting & normal speed, I have lots of noise & vibration, at higher levels, very quiet & no vibration. If you hear lots of slapping, water level is too low, very fast roll over, too much water. Lots of Frigidaire everythng in this area of Indiana, had large F. dealers.

PS these machines used two types of filters, look the same on the outside, one is bed of nails & other (mine) is like a sieve. It clogs quite fast. Also, machine could be running slow because rollers are not clean, they work on friction & should be moisture & oil/grease free. It's really amazing how these washers work.

It could be a loose belt its but its unlikely, its more likely that the agitate drive rollers slip under load. A small amount of water may be getting on them or they may be worn out. 1-18s did not have motor start capacitors although they were some times added to help the motor start in low voltage conditions. If it has a start capacitor it is only in the circuit at the instant of start iis failure could not cause a running motor to slow down. The problem you are having is not a motor problem.

Update
Washed a mattress pad this morning.
Started spin out on Gentle, and water started draining.
After about 20 sec, switched to Normal and spun out tremendously.
If it was left on Normal, it took a while before the water started to leave the tub.
Weird?
Perhaps I should start the agitate on Gentle, then switch to Normal?

Tried to start out the agitation on Gentle, then switch to Normal. Still tended to slow down and I heard some squeaking.
Perhaps the belt or the rollers.
Will keep trying.
