Red lint- Filter Flos and the failure of dryers

Okay by luck I washed the RED tableclothes in with the WHITE napkins in the Jetcone washer with JET AWAY lint removal.

The result was the WHITE napkins came out covered in RED lint so they looked red-pink! 

 

Into the 1970 GE FILTER FLO they went with the WHITE filter pan in place for contrast, then into the Speed Queen dryer to remove any - if any- remaining lint.

This is why people who wash all of their clothes together, regrdless of color and fabric, look like bums. Any load with a propensity for heavy linting or lint transfer, especially of different colors, should have fabric softener added to the final rinse to help prevent the lint from sticking to the fabrics.

I have found that a pulsator Frigidaire will do more to distribute lint evenly through the load rather than removing it. LOL

Did you wash them all together again or separate the napkins on the second round?

I seperated the whites on the second load, threw the red tableclothes in the GE Combo to dry.

Lint Tests

Jon, again, was the FF lint dried in at least a 140 degree oven for at least an hour before weighing ?

air dried three days next to a steam pipe. Yes the heat is still on in the am.

Indeed the FilterFlo is catching the lint (which I never doubted, that was the other Lefever...).

But any comparison between the weight the washer and dryer caught is invalid. The washer had the chance to extract the lint first so less remained for the dryer to have a swing at. To be a fair test you needed to split the load and let the washer remove lint from 1/2 and dry the other 1/2 then compare lint weights. In that test I have money on the dryer catching more weight of lint.

I'd still love to see the results of running an empty wash load and tossing in a known quantity of lint from the dryer. Weighing the dried lint from the filter pan would directly (and indisputably) show the efficiency of the FF lint capture ability!

the "other Lefever" had said to me that he felt the dryer would always catch more lint than the Filter Flo, which as we can see is not the case hands down.

 

Someone else can pick up the testing or it can wait for a wash in with other witnesses.

Love this test Jon, it shows what most of us know to be true a GE filter-flo washer is amazing at removing the lint and pet hair from the wash. I remember how the dog blanket used to come out of the solid tub Filter-Flo compared to other machines I had at that time, the filter pan would be full of hair and the blanket was nearly 100% hair-free.

To satisfy

the requirements of MS , I can bake the pan lint at 140 degrees for an hour this afternoon. Then weigh and measure AGAIN.

Just leave it for a few days in the same room. Both kinds of lint will get the same humidity level.

True that. Natural fibers absorb humidity which is why cotton is classed as a hygroscopic fiber and why early hygrometers used horse hair to measure, via its expansion, greater humidity and lower humidity via its contraction.
