I have a 1956 Hotpoint refrigerator whose door needs straightening out. Seems that the top and the middle of the door close normally but at the bottom it just won't seal with the unit itself. Any ideas?

I needed the door seal replaced. So, I called the local "expert" in Tacoma that I had been buying parts from for years. I took a sample of the seal in and he ordered it. When it came in , he came over and said, "Well it's not the right seal, but I think I can make it work ." The seal was WAY too big. He put it on and proceeded to slam the door many times in order to make it work. I had to go to Johnstone supply and buy the proper size seal and re-do the door my self. (By the way, Johnstone had the proper seal in stock the ENTIRE time!) I took the door off and tweaked it as best I could, then stuffed the seal in the areas that it didn't touch. I check it frequently and adjust the "shimms" so to speak. Good luck with your rig!

spankomatic, i think Kenny wants you to get the wood jammed in the lower door to see if you can tweak the misaligned door. Like kenny said gently / tweak. You can straighten older car bumpers, the chrome ones if smashed in the middle you back against a good fence post on the very edge near the dent. kind of country fixin. so our parents would not kill us, the m.o. would straighten out a dented bumper pretty good. :-) alr2903
