Removing a Frigidaire pulsator

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Still having trouble with it. I’m hesitant to put heat on the bolt as I’m worried it will damage the pulsator. I would use a dremel tool but don’t have a spare nut! I’m also worried about putting too much force on it and then break the pulsator shaft.

I have tried impacting it with no luck, this was an old battery operated impact so I doubt it would damage anything but still not luck.

If you decide to Dremel it off, more than likely you can rig something up such as stainless steel fender washers held down with a large stainless steel nut the same thread size as the shaft.

Removing a stuck, aluminum pulsator nut

I’ve probably removed more than 20 of those using the propane torch method. You have to get the torch to burn upside down at the lowest flame and you just heat the top of the nut, you heat it until it just starts to smoke a little bit and then the nut will come off easily. The combination of heating the nut and slightly melting the plastic that has become corroded and fused to the bottom of the nut works every time.

If you put too much force on this nut with a breaker bar or something to try to loosen it, you can destroy the mechanism cause it will twist the shaft and ruin the sleeve bearings inside the spin shaft., I’ve seen this done.

You certainly could cut it off as well as Robert suggested but I’ve never resorted to that. Those nuts are around you could use washers and a stainless steel nut. I’m sure, we used to also just break the agitators off. There are still lots of parts around for those machines, I don’t know what I’m gonna do with all the Frigidaire stuff I have.
