When I got the 67 GE range it had a piece of flexible vinyl baseboard across the front and down both sides at the bottom of the cabinet. I peeled it off to find tan colored mastic or construction adhesive stuck to the stove. Of course its really on there. Any thoughts on how to remove it without harming the porcelain?

Try cooking oil. Adhesive is petroleum based and likes dissolve in likes. Also works as a great non drying hand degreaser/cleaner for working on cars or motorcycles.
If that doesn't work 'Goof Off' would probably do it.

Heat is your friend. Get it hot and scrape it off with a tool that won't scratch. Any minor residuals will come off easily with a non abrasive scouring pad.

For a solvent I'd try MEK or acetone.

Porcelain is pretty hard to damage so this should go easy.
