Repainted Maytag Center-Dial Machines

I ran across this dryer on Craigslist and did a double-take. It's not quite my style, but it looks better than I would have thought! It sort of looks like it's dressed up for a special occasion - a black tux with a blue bow tie.

Has anyone else painted one of these, or come across one that has been painted in a non-factory color? (Or perhaps a rare factory color, such as the turquoise?)

I like the black appliances. I think a black 806 set would look stunning.

appliances are good test runs for many shops/schools....as a training guide before they go onto vehicles....

my brother works at a shop that paints on a small level like a fender.....now have added a full paint booth....and have been doing fridges a lot to test with.....

white is easy, but something like red or black is selected to show any and all defects in a paint job.....

I too would like to see an 806 set in black.....or even some shading combinations....

I inquired once into the cost of turning an avocado

806 into a decent Maytag colour. Was referred, as Yogi mentioned, to the local VoTech.

Instructor was highly interested - said he'd love the challenge. My cost would have b been materials plus a service charge of $50. Cheap.

 

But - ran out of time, went back to Germany and the 806 went into service. Stayed in service for years. Unfortunately, stayed the most hideous of all colors for years, too.

 

I've painted refrigerators pastel colours over smoked harvest gold (second nastiest colour in the pantheon of ugly) and it seems to work best when the primer is grey. 

 

Who does porcelain? Anybody?

After some of the comments I heard in August, I'm surprised this topic hasn't come up more often... Then again so many things are obvious in retrospect.

Assuming the adage "A good line is a good line is a good line"* applies to the appliance in question, I can envision the following exchange:

Hubby: No.

Member: But it's a classic and it's gorgeous. And you said yourself we need to replace the current one. You said you want to keep it in the kitchen and this one is the exact same size and will slot right in.

Hubby: No.

Member: But it's a classic and it does what you wished the old one would.

Hubby: Hell to the f*** no! I refuse to look at that vomit-inducing color every day. Not to mention that all our friends would take one look and flee for their lives screaming the whole way.

Member: Well, how about if I paint it to match the ___________? You know you only bought it because that color makes your blood run south.

Hubby: Well, if you can do that I suppose it's ok.

Member: Anything for you, Babe.

*I first read that applied to either the Turbine, Marlin, or original Barracuda. Can't remember which. Gurus? Care to weigh in on that?

That turbine is a nifty design...

 

If only if the engine was such a bust to retain the body style & interior fixings...

 

To make something like that today, you still need Plymouth--or to have quickly done it in its final era, as when you had the Prowler, the Voyager, and Neon...  (and whatever the equivalent to the Chrysler Cirrus/Dodge Stratus was, too; circa late-1990's...)

The biggest fight we ever had in our house was over a Twenty Eight Hundred in avocado. I'd be willing to save a thumper in avocado, but that's about it.
Hate that color passionately.
I like Pank, tu'qua, sunny yellow and coppertone. Poppy red, too. But the post 1967 colours, yeah, pass.
But, heh - everyone's tastes are different. Those are beautiful Maytags, by the way. Are they yours?

Not sure if this is the paint being removed (chrome underneath), or the panel being re-painted in silver...
