We have two Maytag washers, both of which leak around the tub. We called a local person who claims to repair older machines, and the first thing he said was that it wasn't worth his coming out to look at the machines and that we should just purchase a new one. So...we are seeking someone who actually enjoys working on old Maytag washers -- an HA608 and a A408. We're in upstate New York, near Rochester. Does anyone know of anyone relatively nearby who repairs these machines? Thanks.

hopefully someone will help

you out here. my experience is limited to dishwashers and frigidaire washers and late model whirlpools. i would guess it's the tub seal and you can find parts i would guess, on ebay if nowhere else. i've seen posts on this site of maytags being repaired. you might want to try the search engine in this imperial section.

there are some guys here that are experts to say the least, i'm thinking combo 52 and stevet among others, not to leave anyone out. the man who started and maintains this site, unimatic is beyond extremely talented and knowledgeable in all things related to vintage appliance repair!

hopefully folks will join in here and help you out. any new machine you buy will be a peice of junk in my opinion! i actually have one maytag top loader from the 70's, not sure what model but it's in harvest gold and i would guess it's the mid 70's and i use it like once every 5 years! it always runs great and no leaks. they were built to last back then!

when i get back to my place in milford tonite i'll get the model no. and see if i can dig up any info on this site for you. there might be a service manual on it available here too. i have downloaded several for frigidaire washers.

good luck with it, try doing it yourself as a hobby! if it's like any other top loader i have worked on you get the agitator and inner tub out and there is your tub seal! i just fixed a whirlpool and got my tub seals (there were 3 needed) on ebay for about 6 bucks each! i just used it today!

Still need hellp

II agree with the remarks in the response and am curious about whether I could fix the machines, but my wife wants then fixed asap, and with what's on my plate already, I can't do that. So does anyone know of anyone in upstate NY, near Rochester if possible, who might be willing to fix these? By helping my wife, you would be helping me. Best, Wade
