Back in the early 70s, I bought this neat WANTZ bottle for demineralizing water for my steam iron. I have replaced the resin once, but now I can't find the stuff anymore and the company seems to be gone. I have found, on a couple of sites including the one at the link, something that might be the same, although it is probably enough to last for several lifetimes. Does anyone know if it is the same stuff as in the WANTZ bottle? I guess that on a smaller scale, my iron qualifies as a gravity feed. The resin says it changes color just like the WANTZ stuff. I love the little spout that injects the water into the iron and the name because if you put an sh in front of it, well I won't get into that here. I guess I could buy a lot of distilled water for $12.75 + shipping. Might a sewing goods store sell this? Your information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yes, It Is The Same Thing In Principle

Check around various commercial laundry, dry cleaners and tailor suppliers, you might be able to find the stuff sold in larger amounts for less.

I only use distilled water in irons or steam boiler systems that can it is fine. My newer Rowenta, Bernia and others recommend using tap water unless it is *very* mineral or rust laden.

Whoa! I remember the Wantz demineralizer from the late 50s. Which would have made me early teens. Sorry, other than that nostalgia note I can't tell you anything about them.

[can't edit]

Can tell you that storebought "drinking water" that says reverse osmosis on it is 99% demineralized. I use it in my coffeemaker and recipes. Roughly 90c/gallon.

We've always been able to get these here. Do Sunbeam retail these in the US?

Estate sale find today...

Tom,

Found this today.
Three new cartridges, two in the box and one extra, plus the funnel.

If you would like to have the extra cartridge, still sealed, I will send it to you.
Just send me details.

Bill

Thank you, Bill.

Congratulations on your find!

Actually, I looked at the color of the resin crystals in the bottle and they are nowhere near the gold color that signals the end of their effectiveness. I think they might have more years left than I so I don't need to change them just now. I'll let whoever finds the bottle at my estate sale worry about that.

Thank you for your kind offer.
