Retro-renovation "American Beauties.." led me to Vintage Refrigerator - Coldspot french door - $299

I was checking out retrorenovation.com's "American Beauties" this morning:

Mid-way down on the page is a Sears Limited Edition Coldspot, designed for Flora (whatever it means) by Sundberg Ferar. that caught my eye by design and got me looking for one on CL. No luck this morning, but now one showed up here, in minutes. Good or bad…here it 'tis. But the last photo I added is from retro-renovation, not CL. [this post was last edited: 12/11/2014-19:34]

"Flora"

The way Flora's name got on the fridge was: When you bought one of these fridges, you got to order a free nameplate engraved with your name. When it came, you stuck it on, if memory serves.

Anyway, it was a little sales gimmick for a high-end model. Sort of the same thing as some '50s luxury cars that came with an engraved dash plate saying "Built for (your name)."

Yeah, that makes sense now, Sandy - thanks for explaining. Because, otherwise, it will just be "SEARS" vs. your name.

Although I like the design on the outside, it doesn't have the same appeal to me on the inside. But, if it was free…

I used to know a guy in California who still had his about 4 years ago.  The MA kept it going.  He absolutely loved it.  What's old became new again with French Door Fridges of today.  His was white.

Bob - I wouldn't mind having one, but after being around aw.org, there's other distractions. I don't need a big house, just enough rooms to fit three refrigerators and stoves and , and, and , and….

My friend Glenna D. had a version of this refrigerator, though it wasn't the "Sundberg Ferar" edition. Hers was White with a woodgrain finish on the door panels. It was purchased sometime around '66 to '68. They moved a couple times, and guess they left it in one of the houses, because when they moved into the present house sometime in the mid 70's, they got a Frigidaire SxS in Poppy.
