Thomas Hine:
Shag rugs are back in the stores. The rooms in decorating magazines are starting to look just a little bit cluttered. Solar panels are hot. Men are wearing beards. There are orange cars on the road, something not seen since the days of the flaming Ford Pinto. For all we know, avocado-colored appliances are about to mount a comeback.

The culture seems to be having a 1970s moment.

I love PANK, I dig Turquoise, Sunny Yellow and Mint Green (which kinda looks blue to me) are cool. The GE designer pastels were so me.

But, puh-lease. Not avocado.

Pretty please?

It really is a slippery slope. First avocado. Then harvest gold.

Dear God no pink please!

I'd take avocado, harvest gold, mint green, or even sunny yellow...but please no pink!

I've never understood this fascination with pink so many in the gay community have...to each his own...

Sears did have the Avocado green the other day, but they calle it Chi. They also have the brown but it's called truffle.

All that's old is new again. Hip huggers, bell bottoms. Please Dear God in heaven stop them before they bring back the leisure suit.

It's not all bad . . .

"Men are wearing beards." As God intended, I might add. I can even deal with shag carpet (must use the Kirby, the Constellation isn't shag friendly), but I do draw the line at avocado and coppertone . . . ugh. Guess I'm just a turquoise kinda guy.

It's spelled like its

spoken, Ken: PANK.

And it goes heavenly with my fingernails and lipstick, yet doesn't overpower them, that's why.

I mean, what on earth does one wear to match avocado?

(just teasing, I know there are some here who take it way too seriously)

Remember on the TV series Bewitched, all the warlocks wore leisure suite, except for Maurice, who always wore a tuxedo.

I guess I'll have a while to wait before Almond/Bisque makes a comeback....

But, puh-lease. No avocado or faux woodgrain... pretty pleas

Umm, Keven... I guess you won't like the set I'll be bringing home in 3 weeks then!!

Hmmph!

;-D

Ken, we're about the same age. You seriously don't remember the importance of pink back in the 1970's? It was our community's middle finger to bigotry. And even in the hetero world, who didn't know at least one strapping hunk who didn't wear pink dress shirts and Izod polo shirts?

As for appliances, pink is the very essence of gay -- and it has zilch to do with sexual orientation. No other country would have even thought of it, which is why it was so wonderful IMO.

Ah, Jeff,

as usual, the Italians got their first.

Anytime you have good design for a utilitarian object, count on it - the Italians almost certainly did it first.

Bonus points to the first who places Miss Prescott and PANK!

Keven, that's very interesting. Do you know what year the first pink appliances were made?

Nope,

Only, I've seen PANK in Italian county homes as multi-fuel ranges from the 1920's.
Clue:
feels so gay
feels so bright
makes your day
makes your night
pink is now the color to which...
you gotta switch!

So who sang it and what venue and when?

OMG
I almost died last night on HGTV there tore out this beautiful kitchen in this 70's custom home that had gorgues orange cabinets and silestone countertops and stainless apllinace, because fu fu queen didnt like them... I was soo saddend..

The 70s never left

Appliances are coming in colors again, shag is back, and I have the console stereos to prove it. Even vinyl records are making a comeback

Avocado forever!

I love avacado appliances almost as the coppertone ones which are my favorite. You can keep that god-awful harvest gold though. I love shag carpet, my favorite being a seafoam green and white two tone 2.5" pile which was in a home I attended an estate sale in, would love to have that carpeting with dark wood paneling and flocked gold wallpaper with low back sofas in a brown floral pattern and massive table lamps with beige drum shades and wood pattern formica tables and heavy dark brown drapderies with gold fringes. Also a kitchen and laundryroom with burnt orange walls, red brick pattern congoleum flooring with brown shag throw rugs, coppertone appliances, gold and white formica and every countertop appliance under the sun in avacado. If only it could happen again

If...

...Avocado must come back, let's at least call it by its right name - Linda Blair Green.

Can you tell I was around when the Avocado Tsunami hit America and wiped out all the nice colours?

Sorry if this offends any avocado lovers, but I was there, and it wasn't pretty.

Once upon a time, someone did a study comparing the paint used on the interior walls of prisons, and prison violence. The color most associated with violence, even riots, was... pink!

anything but.... Mauve & Teal

My bedroom at my late parents home was a color close to avocado in the mid 70's. The closet still is :-) Hopefully avocado comes back before..... mauve and teal, once at work our offices were moved and the whole place was late 80's early 90's mauve and teal, even the bathrooms.

LOL hydralique, thats exactly what Jackie O. said of Mrs. Eisehower. Mamie Eise... pink. :-)

I wouldn't mind a few appliances in British Racing Green. But avocado is a bit unsettling.

For quite a while I didn't like the Martha Stewart off-jade green (chartreuse?) she promulgated on so many products. But now I think it's basically inoffensive, if not in excess. Still don't like it on stuff like towels and sheets, though. I used to refer to it as "puke green" which it still resembles when used on very cheap materials.
