I think this is a very good opportunity to point out

the difference between a "Christian" - that is, someone who believes in the Good News of the New Testament.
and
A christianist, that is, someone who has perverted Christianity to achieve their political goal of destroying the US Constitution and oppressing gays and the transgender by denying us our rights. These people are especially evil because they capture the support of naive Christians who don't realise that they are being exploited.
This would be someone like, for instance, this scumbag filthy asshat of a monster, Dr. Rekers.

We have him to thank for quite a few, if not the majority of the laws stripping us our civil and human rights over the last years in the US.

This exposure of the pig is a very good thing.

I do feel sorry for the rentboy, though. His business is ruined and he's already being attacked by the lawyers from the christianists.

In related news today, State Senator Bartz of Iowa (he's a republican, of course) is trying to strip gay couples of the right to family camping passes in Iowa State Parks.

No kidding.

He advocated and, until it became illegal, used electroshock therapy against gays. He directly caused several suicides.
He wrote a law for the state of Arkansas which forbade gays to adopt and he testified in Florida for the State of Florida last year that it was a good thing to take children away from their parents if their parents were gay.

Well, the news people had a field day with the rev tonight. The good news is that the state of Florida paid him $120,000 to present his bag of lies. I am sure that they thought they were really screwing the gay community when they contracted with him to tell his lies. Well, turnabout seems like fair play. They also pointed out his bogus organization the American College of Pediatricians is so named to cause confusion with the legitimate American Academy of Pediatrics. Everything about him is built on lies. I hope everyone who has paid him for his expert testimony sues him to recover their payments until he has nothing left to sit on and I don't mean furniture. I know it is asking too much, but somehow the connection has to be made between these rabidly antigay characters and their actual homosexuality. The public has to be shown that these unbalanced individuals are really preaching from a point of self-hate; not morals, religion, psychiatry or anything else.

Still, you have to admire the Creator's sly sense of justice. Einstein's translation of a bit of German expresses it well: G-d is slick, but he's not mean. This reverend had just sent out a letter to school administrators on his organization's bogus letterhead telling them that homosexual students in their schools can be cured with therapy then he leaves on a 10 day trip with the rentboy only to be photographed with his rentboy on his return. Tonight on AC 360, the rentboy said that the rev steadfastly maintained he is not gay, even though the $75.00 a day contract specified that the rentboy give him a one hour massage every day, details of which can be found on the web. He also had to join him for two meals each day and spend 8 hours a day with him and sleep with him in the room they shared. What a desperate old homosexual but, unfortunately, one that has influenced life in some of the worst ways.

I know there are quite a few conservative Christians who are also devout Republicans (or tea-party supporters) and some of whom are also gay here.
Could one of them explain to me (without screaming at me, calling me a troll or other names) why they support the people who do these things to us?

I find it fascinating that the gay Christians (Gaychristian.net for example) are calling for tolerance and forgiveness towards Dr. Rekers, while the christianists are all pretending they don't know the guy, never heard of him, and, anyway, it was teh gayz what done it.
Especially that rent-boy. He tempted him with his sweet, smooth, ass, he did.

The hypocrisy of the conservative Christians here is beyond belief.

When someone asks to be forgiven, they have to acknowledge doing a wrong and say that they will not do that wrong again. We get this every year at Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. In Hebrew the word is teshuva, turning away from the wrongdoing. Has the rev acknowledged LYING about the gay community? Has he said he would stop? As Rachel Maddow said, it's not about being gay, which cannot be changed, or being in the closet, it's being those things AND publicly doing and saying things to hurt gay people, especially the young gay people who are bullied and, in some cases, thrown out of their homes, driven to self-destructive behaviors, even suicide, by the actions of those who believe what these lying, self-hating, bigoted monsters profess. That thought was the major difference between her report on the rev and Anderson Cooper's report. She spoke with the freedom of someone out of the closet.

There's the rub - the christianists just plain flat refuse to accept that sexual orientation is an immutable characteristic.
They otherwise reject natural selection, but on this topic they are stuck in the 19th century view "survival of the fittest". Which is bull, um, pucky.
First - survival of the species.
Second - grandmothers and gays siblings both result in a higher survival rate of the breeders to mate.
What is so hard to comprehend about that?

Anyway, to my knowledge, the batsard has never apologized, the christianists transferred him from one of them to one of us just as slick as riding it home on silicone lube and that's that.

I really, really hope we can force the Democrats to act on ENDA and DADT. The courts will eventually overturn DOMA, it is in conflict with the 14th and everybody knows it.

Actually, I think that is part of this blowback - the christianists and rethuglicans know they are at the end of their reign of terror against us. Except for the Islamic world, nobody else but America still denies us human status.
 
"Coop" was listed as one of the "Power 50" gay people in Out magazine this month - along with a larger-than-most picture of him. Living in a glass closet, he is.

I'm glad this "Reverend" Rekers' story is everywhere. It may seem inconsequential to some in the anit-gay movement but every little chink in the armor weakens their position a little bit more.

Anguish

I am gay and have been out for 6 years. I was married for 28 years and have 4 children which I adore and consider parenting my highest calling. I can unabashedly say I love God. As a young man, tormented from within by own demons and without because of weight, interests and mannerisms it was with God I could be honest and share everything. Tomorrow being Mother's Day I have been thinking about my wife, the gift of family that she gave me and a sense of sadness for her loss. Now that I truly know and experience a loving relationship with another human I wish that my wife could know the same. For so many years I pleaded with God to change the fiber of who I was so that I could find happiness and contentment in a straight marriage. I also begged many times for death as the struggle of being me was too great. After coming out I had a conversation with God in 2004 and said "if this is who you meant me to be, than I will accept and honor who I am." It was in that moment so many expressions of life began to appear. If one believes in God and believes God blesses those He/She loves, I am living proof God has no issue with homosexuals and I'm sure He/She grew weary of my daily list of all the things Creator did wrong in creating me. The cheek I had to criticize God's handiwork. New Thought faith makes reference to "mass" consciouness or the prevailing attitude of the mass. It is in tipping over, one at a time, the mass becomes greater and the "mass" consciousness visualises higher ideals. The process is much more difficult than any one man or religious persausion can define. I know the torment of living duality. I know the peace that comes from disarming the threat of getting outed and living free from personal oppression. Sadly God and or the Creative Force of the Universe becomes the tool for separation. It hasn't been easy and even though I'd never go back, I wish there was a way to make the pathway easier. I once lived in a very small religious box where there was a template for who God was and how to find Him. I find God in so many expression and definations I would have never accepted in the past. It did not make God lessor, but open the opportunity to know God is so many new and rich expressions. For me, God, not Christianity or Religion has been a refuge. The same refuge is waiting for the reverend and so many other tormented, frightened and lost believers who live in the daily fear of their Truth being told.

Not only does Faux news not have anything on their website about Rev. Rekers, it is impossible to find anything about him by entering his name in the search box. You will find page after page of hits for "George" going back years, but he has been "disappeared" in that corner of the conservative world, just like he was erased from the website of the SC institution with which he was associated. I hope "Lucien" asked for cash up front because there might not be an income in Rekers' future. I wonder if he will appear in the pulpit tomorrow morning? It sounds like Karma made the ultimate margin call and his bets way exceeded his assets or his lies exceeded any attempt at justification. As he bleets pathetically, "I'm not gay," a voice is heard saying, "But cha ahr, Blance, ya ahr."

According to his page at Wikipedia.org, Geo. Rekers was born on the same day (different year) that I was born, July 11.

I am greatly displeased by this newly discovered fact. I hope, in compensation, that I get lots of love and presents from all the Birthday Fairies this year!

EEEYUU. That is gross. I hope there was very dim to non-existent lighting and something like a bag over his head. What do you bet that someone found out about the horrible event and was going pubic, er public. Disclosure must have been pretty certain for him to nip this in the bud with all of those campaign debts to pay and no way of paying them off with ear-marks in the next term.
