Revolutionary Drying System on new Bosch/Siemens Dishwashers

B/S/H have just introduced a new drying system: Zeolite Drying. Basically, one can now have heated, fan-forced drying on Euro dishwashers.

How Zeolite-Drying works: during the drying cycle, hot, moisture-laden air is drawn from the wash chamber into a reservoir filled with three pounds of zeolite. It absorbs moisture and, as a side effect, heats up. The dry and heated air is than blow back into the tub where is continues to heat and dry the dishes. During the wash cycle, the zeolite reservoir is heated from below and releases the captured moisture as hot steam – thereby adding extra heat to the wash cycle (while the flow-through heater already heats the water).

According to Bosch/Siemens Home Appliances, Zeolite Drying cuts the cycle time by 15 minutes and lowers energy consumption to just 0.87 kWh on the Eco cycle.

These dishwasher also have all the other features that come with the new generation of dishwashers; some also have the cutlery tray. There's plenty of literature available but it's all in German.

Actually, I'm sure I just read in the Bosch site that it is even better at 0.83kWh.

I would imagine that the zeolite container acts a bit like the bricks in a storage heater. Absorbing heat during the wash cycle and emitting it during the drying part.

And the the drying is done with the door closed like current Bosch models.

I'm not enamoured with the idea of the Miele models that are said to open their door ajar, to allow the steam into the kitchen. Steamy kitchens breed mould and mildew.
