Ricky Martin may not be "big" on the mainstream USA market, but he still does well with the Latin market. Hey, the man owned then sold a nice sized place in the Time Warner complex on Central Park South, then moved on to Tribeca/Financial centre, not to mention his other properties in Miami and elsewhere. Adding to this the funds to engage a surrogate to birth his two sons (and keep quiet about it), and so forth. So would say his money has to come from somewhere.
As for "gambling", most of these bets started either in college or when one was working in various offices. You know, it would be a slow day and us girls sitting around reading magazines and gabbing, sooner or later someone would gush about how so and so was so "handsome" and wanted to marry whomever that man was. Of course they never would believe said man was "not the marrying kind", so would offer to make a wager. The rest, as they say is history.

As For Harming Is Career
Ricky Martin is middle-aged with a slight paunch, and a father of two, though while still attractive, one tends to think yes at this stage of his life,coming out isn't going to harm him.
Besides he has to consider his sons, far better for the thing to be settled thus not making it a big deal, rather than to have continued whispers and innuendo. Not to mention some explination is going to have to be given for all those "uncles" that sleep over. Indeed am willing to bet having all this done whilst his sons are still infants means the whole thing will blow over by the time they enter school.

I'm being very honest here, I have NEVER seen the man in a movie yet.. I don't go to movies, I seldom if ever rent a DVD and never one of his yet. I have only ever seen him as a guest on some talk show etc or in movie trailers on tv but for some reason my gaydar lights up.

One of my hairdresser friends has a boyfriend (or could be "ex" by now), who works as a "personal trainer", and in the whole David Geffen party loop.
We've taken to nicknaming this person "The Manicurist" after the character from the film "The Women". *LOL*
As for Tom Cruise, aside from my bets, really don't care anymore "is he or isn't he". Am willing however to pay good money to see what he looks like without his "toupee", or whatever hair restoration method is being used.

I know a number of spanish men VERY well and they have VERY different views of it than gringos. do. Most will never be seen with a openly admittied gay person. Wifes even see it different.. have know many that will go to a bar with hubsand to make sure he dont go home with a woman or a "queen" another cowboy gets her blessings everytime.. And have even know them to call and make dates for them. And bring them over.

Am still going with the man has other larger concerns, that is his sons, to worry about. I mean after all why bother making this statement now? Nothing in his life really has changed beyond the birth of his children, something he must or should have given serious thought to before contracting the thing out.
Clay Atksion (sp?), came out shortly before or after the birth of his child, and IIRC so have most of the famous or at least in the public eye gay and lesbians who have had children.
Yes, society is changing, and while things may not be as great for gays as many would like them to be, once becomes a parent either out of decision or whatever, the well being of that child or children is now the number one priority.
Back in the day manya child with gay or bisexual parent "knew" something was going on, but without the constant 24/7 media exposure we have today, that knowledge was kept fairly close. Today you could ship that child off to a boarding school in the Alps and dirt would still find them.
Mr. Martin probably has other financial means aside from his musical career, lord knows Lance Bass isn't short of bob or two, so maybe his career (or what there is left of it), didn't really matter.
