RIP Persil Power Pearls

A few years back I bought a jug of Persil Power Pearls (regular scent) at Walmart. It languished on the shelf for a couple of years, but last year I started using it again and have been quite pleased with the results. The jug is getting low so I went looking to buy some more. Wisely, I checked the internet. Turns out Persil/Henckel discontinued selling the Power Pearls in the USA around 2017. I'm bummed out about that. Walmart seems to have plenty of the liquid version, which I might try, but I really prefer a powder detergent for maximum cleaning power.

Oh well, Might be a Tide powder out there.

And I still have plenty of Sears Ultra Plus HE powder to use. I'll probably fill the soon-to-be empty Persil just with it. Just because.

There's quite a few of them on eBay.
Not cheap, but if you really like it, that's an option.

Looking at completed auctions, they are indeed selling at those prices.

You could have just checked this forum, since there were posts ad nauseam about it at the time. I stopped worrying about when I found that powder Tide With Bleach works just as well, for me. YMMV, and all that.

Yeah, I had been using Tide with Bleach powder before the Persil Power Pearls, along with various liquids for softer results like bath towels. Then I moved to using the Persil for everything.

I guess I missed the messages about the discontinuation of the Persil Power Pearls. And the Amazon/eBay prices are about 10x what it used to cost. No thanks!

Today I got some of the liquid Persil at Costco. A big 1.5 gallon jug. $20. OK.

First thing I washed was a new polyester American Flag (made in America). Just in tome for the 4th. It came out of the package a bit wrinkled so I decided to wash it. Threw in a very small amount ot the Persil liquid - way more suds than I anticipated. That was ok, but what wasn't OK was the color bleeding from the red stripes. I tried to add some STPP, no luck . Now I'm running a rinse cycle, with lots of vinegar, but I don't expect that will remove the dye transfer, either. Oh well. I suppose I could always return it to Costco...

So now I have a Red, Pink, and Blue American flag. LOL.

Persil Power Perls Suffered Many Same

Issues as the "mega-perls" sold in Europe IIRC.

The beads were wont to get into the washer boot where they wouldn't dissolve well or at all during wash.

Hmm, I never saw any perls stuck in the boot. However I did notice they sort of danced around in the detergent bin on the Neptune 7500. But they all seemed to go down the hatch ok. I keep a little spray bottle, set on stream, just in case a powder gets hung up on the chute screen. Many powders will do that, not just the perls.

Not sure I'm happy with the liquid Persil. I've read it's too sudsy. Probably because Henckel figures that Americans love their top loaders and lots of suds, so they made it more sudsy.

Oh, and I ran the flag through the strong vinegar rinse and hung it back out on the flag pole to dry. Seems less pink in the sunlight. We'll see. It probably could use ironing now... it's a bit puckered up at the seams.

Try the new Persil liquids

Scent has been toned down, sudsing controlled, and rinses far easier/cleaner than previously.

Did a bunch of dress shirts last week and after ironing and hanging to air there was very little remaining scent. Used about 35ml for a full load in the Miele and had no problems with rinsing, by the third or fourth water was clear.

Find when using this Persil liquid don't have to pre-treat most marks, and or add anything else but perhaps some oxygen bleach. Collars, cuffs, etc... the lot come out clean. I quite fancy it! *LOL*

Well, this WAS a new Persil liquid. I mean I bought the jug a few days ago.

But there is good news.

I brought the red pink and blue flag back to Costco. They laughed and refunded my money. I picked up another one; and this time I was very careful about it. I hung it on the clothesline and sprinkled it with cold water. No change in the wrinkles that I could see, but at least the red dye didn't run.

Then once it had dried, I got out the ironing board and steam iron and carefully ironed the red and white stripes separately. Both sides. That helped a lot, but even without any detergent I could detect an extremely faint transfer of red dye onto a few parts where the white stripes had been creased/bunched by the ironing. But it's basically unnoticeable. Put the flag back on the pole and it's now attached to the front of the house by the front porch. I moved the California Republic bear flag over to a second spot, at the side of the house by the driveway.

I hope nobody's interest is flagging. LOL.
