Tom Poston, the tall, pasty-faced comic who found fame and fortune playing a clueless everyman on such hit television shows as "Newhart" and "Mork and Mindy," has died. He was 85
He was great in Newhart. One of the alltime funniest episodes I think was the time he found the wallet and the drivers license picture was that of a good looking girl. He returned it and they started dating but she had this humongous butt, which was the butt of all the jokes in the show. It was hilarious and ranks up there with Mary Tyler Moores, Chuckles the clown funeral episode.
Tom Poston, Don Knotts, and one or two others were recurring guests on the old Steve Allen show. They had a specific billing, something like "the Funny Men".
I remember one episode where he told Dick (Newhart): "I just got finished fixing the washing machine." Dick replied: "I didn't know anything was wrong with it."
Then he walks over to Joanna, who apparently asked him to repair it, and told her. Her reply: "George, it was the dryer."
My Italian mother loved the early 1960s film "A Rome Adventure", starring Suzanne Pleshette. She bought the soundtrack album and I heard it a million times during my youth. As with Tom Poston, Suzanne Pleshette was a guest star on Will & Grace, playing Karen Walker's mother.
