Shane,
To be clear, no - if I could have prevented his having cancer, I would have. I meant the following: It is deeply, tragically ironic that a man who directly contributed to the destruction of the United States Constitution, i.e.: Writ of Habeas Corpus, illegal war of aggression, invasion of privacy, engagement in torture, violating signed treaties, the death of over 4,000 young Americans...and cutting back on VA services for the hundreds of thousands of brave soldiers injured fighting a pointless war - well, it is ironic for such a man to die of a disease which so resembles his behavior.
I know you and I don't agree on much politically, but I do think that we are in agreement that the US Constitution stands above, not below the feet of the three branches of the US government. Tony Snow may not have set policy and I am willing to believe he did not know what was being done at the beginning, but he was complicit in the lies and calumny long before he left. To me, violating the Constitution is as un-American as it gets. I may tend to knee-jerk to the left, and I think your deeply held and sincere religious beliefs sometimes lead you to put too much faith in people who are not worthy of your trust. Can we agree that we both would really, really like to see Eisenhower back?
