Ok i know some of you have take road trips all over the place.. Just got home from San Francisco, Los Angles and Other parts of California.. This was a very unplanned, last minute trip and one of the best i ever have gone on... Drove about 2,800 miles and got to see alot.. Napa is beautiful, second time to san francisco and although cold, it was nice.. Stayed in Palo Alto this time and it was well worth the commute IMHO... Los Angels, fey.. Take it or leave it.. I am a bit of a road warrier and i travel as much as i can (thank god i have the means and ablity too, esp. since i travel cheap)..

Anyway, my question to you guys
Do you like to take a very planned, structured thought out trip or a very spur of the moment, low key, type affair? Do you like to live it up or travel on the cheap? Do you like to get lost in the local culture or just see the tourist stuff

Like to here from you guys...

I too love road trips. I have done planned and unplanned. I like them because I can go where I want when I want. No crowds at the airports and no clock to watch. I have been to many places in the U.S. and Canada via car. If there is something I want to see on the way,I can. Classic Appliance Convention at Greg's house in Omaha was one of them in 2005. It was neat to able to get out and walk on the salt flats in Utah. You can not just get out of the plane and do that....

We've done quite a few

In North America, South America, Australia, and New Zealand that were mostly structured. We took turns navigating and driving - who knew that I suck at reading maps?? lol
We do prefer to absorb the local culture as much as we can; it is great fun seeing the 'off the beaten' track places and taking in cuisine that is not adapted for 'foreigners'.
Our 'unstructured' road trips are usually here in Canada and a few have involved picking up vintage appliances. If you ever want to get hubby steaming, just say 'Trois-Rivières' to him.... We are doing a road trip into Upstate NY this coming weekend to indulge my collection addiction - stay tuned for photos next week!!
