Here is Roberts Kenmores that he finally found the matching washer to last week! The washer has the preggo-roto-swirl agitator with the scrubber cap and measuring cup! He put a new belt on the washer and that's all it needed! I think this is a 1971 set. (forgot to ask him and I'm not that good with dating the Kenmores) Mark

...... AND AN A806 !

This one he found along side the road. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this washer! No dents, scratches, or chips. He replaced the flourescent light bulb and the starter. Really beautiful machine. Here he is with his doggie Racer! Mark

Mark, the Kenmores are more like 1963-1965 because the cycles on the timer surface are the pastel blue for delicate, pink for wash'n'wear, and yellow for normal. And the knobs are similar style to the kenmore you found in the woods.

Cool machines! I agree with Bob; those definitely look earlier than 1971; early-to-mid 60's is more likely. The fact that the washer has the "Pregnant Roto-Swirl" was a dead giveaway. Makes the find that much better!!

The Sears set are, at latest, 1963 models. They were lower down the line (model 70) to the turquoise models Robert recently had and sold. I believe the controls are identical to Nate's 1961 model (of which I believe Roanoke Robert also has one) except that Nate's has the more "squat" control panel, whereas this one has that super tall one. This model had a recirculating filter to Robert's self-cleaning.

I believe Robert S. mentioned when he had his, that he knew it was a 1964 model because 1963 was the last year of the pregnant Roto Swirl. The model he had was offered in 1963 as well.

In all events, all of them are beautiful and it is fun to see these early 60s Kenmores again!

By the way Bob Appnut, this is the Sears machine I'm always telling you reminds me of a 58 Frigidaire because of the pointer, square timer dial and the colors going around.

And the funny thing is Scott, when I saw my first WI58 in person, this is the style timer (this and the one lighted controls found) Kenmores I thought of. It's all due to our exposure in childhood--you Frigidaire and me, Kenmore dominated south.

I am so glad to see Robert get the matching Kenmore's up and running. I know he love's them. That Maytag is beautiful too. That new puppy is so cute---I'm glad Robert got a new companion-----he'll be busy trying to keep up!

Funny, "Appnut" says "Kenmore dominated south" but here in Atlanta I think it was a "dead-heat" with Frigidaire. Back in the day, Frigidaire was everywhere around here and I remember Frigidaire dealers all over the place!

Maytag would have been the next most popular---thanks to Atlanta Gas Light Co. They allowed customers to buy Maytag products and put the cost of them on their gas bills----AND they could pay what they could each month untill they were paid off! Great public relations for the gas company and Maytag!

Hey, let's see some pictures of the inside of that washer, and maybe an action shot!! My parents had that exact dryer when I was a kid. They bought it in '63 (the year I was born) to do the diapers.

Kenmore Carbon Dating

Aren't the Kenmores of that era easily dateble by the first two #'s immediately following 110. ? I suppose there could be some mid, late year changes, but I thought that was the most accurate dating. Love the metal w/lid dr/door handles! Beau-
tiful Maytag too. Teach little poochy how to sort and load!

Aside from the model number, which is reliable dating for certain, you might be able to see a date stamp on the transmission, like mine has, assuming it wasn't replaced entirely during the course of the machine's life and didn't wear off.

Mine is on the side facing the access panel and says simply "AUG 4 61."

The Kenmore model numbers indicated the year by the 1st and 3rd number after the 110. Not always totally reliable though. And almost never after 1996.

Ed

The first two digits after 110 did indicate the model year up until about 1980. For most of the machines up to about 1980 this is a reliable method. After about 1980 or so it was the first and third digits. Don't know when they might have changed from the first/third coding though.
