I know that a couple of you own the above blender. I am expecting one by the end of the week and was hoping that you might share some of your experiences with the Ronson C&S. I know that Jetcone had a bit of a problem with Tapioca :-) I'm excited to explore it's possibilities.

Your thoughts!!

Rich

I had one for a while...

Its heavy as heck!
Mine did not have any directions, so I was never quite sure I was using it properly.
Also be ready for some NOISE... a 747 screaming down a runway for takeoff does not make as much racket as a Cook-n-Stir does!

Still its a good hearty machine, the wider jar and blades work great, it crushes ice beautifully!

I have one, who'd have guessed. LOL
I bought it about 20 years ago but I only used it occasionally for making fresh vegetable soups really only to give it some use. I never made anything per the recipe book which I have btw and don't even keep it out. It's extremely noisy even on a slow stir, enough that you don't want to be in the same room for too long. It is however a superb blender for quick liquifying and ice crushing where you're not subjected to the noise for more than a few seconds. There is a rubber gasket that seals the jar to the metal base and hopefully will not leak as it ages over time. My first one did and fortunately at that time the replacements were still available and I got a new one but even it's getting old now but still doesn't leak.
Let me know if there's any particular thing you're trying and I'll check the recipe book and see if it's in there.

Thanks!

I have the 5 speed Ronson blender, a generous holiday gift from Jetcone, so I was kinda expecting a noisy unit BUT I'm now a'scared!! :-) I love gizmos so this should be right up my alley.

The C & S, that I'm getting, comes with the booklet but I'm wondering if it works well and or if there is anything I should be aware of.

Pete...I wouldn't have ever guessed that YOU would have one of these!!!! :-)

I am on the lookout for a Ronson Cook and Stir to add to my collection-this area is not real good for hunting vintage machinery-the Greenville area isn't that old!-and the folks here throw out their older machines-hard for us collectors.Meanwhile still ply the yard sales-Since I work midnights on Saturday-when I get off work-can check out yard sales on the way home.Found a few things that way. With the talk about the Ronson machine-want to scope one out and try it.

They do pop up on ebay occasionally but then you end up paying probably more than what they're worth by the time you add in shipping especially. Still I think I've seen a couple gone that didn't go very high.

I got mine for...

$60 including shipping. I don't know if that's good or bad. One just sold, on eBay, for $80+ plus shipping but it had 2 carafes and another sold, about a month ago, for $20 plus shipping. It came with no extras and was a bit beat up!

I was happy paying the $60. I NEVER see them at any of the shops, thrift stores, yard sales or flea markets in this area. I just think they're very cool! Now where are my ear plugs :-)

Rich

oh Rich

Congratulations and buy ear plugs or put money away for hearing aids!

I want to be there when you turn it on!

I too do have the recipe book and do want to try ONE recipe in there called Cherries SanSouci.
Sounds good and VERY 1960's to say the least!
Let me know when it arrives so you can come over and we can both turn them on at the same time and go downstairs to do laundry!

cheers
jon

I can't believe it...I just got one of these today. I was going to post a thread to ask if anyone had ever seen one. Just goes to show why this is the last stop for appliance info.
By the way it made a very nice potato and leek soup!
Bill

Where'd you find it Bill? BTW what part of MI are you in, I'm hoping to get to the Armada flea market sometimes soon once it opens. Also.. can you post the potato and leek recipe I might give that a try.

Hi Pete, actually it was given to me by an old lady that I care for. She only used it to make strawberry freezer jam. I actually don't use a recipe for the soup but I'll try and come as close as possible for you.
4-6 Yukon Gold potatoes. (I don't peel them but you can if you like.)Or enough to fill the carafe 3/4 full. Cut into chunks.
Approximately 1/2 cup chopped leek.
1/2 lb Polish Kielbasa or Smoked sausage. Cut into chunks
Salt and pepper to taste.
1 cup half and half
1/2 stick butter
1 tablespoon potato buds
Add all ingredients with enough water to half fill carafe. Don't worry about it not being enough it will cook down and be plenty. I set the temp at around 250 on the Cook and stir. Simmer for approx 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Turn off heat and let mixture stop boiling.
Switch to blend and blend just long enough for a slightly lumpy consistency.
Add half and half and butter. Stir slightly while reheating to simmer.
When mixture starts to simmer add potato buds and stir just enough to blend. Turn off heat soup is ready to serve.

I only stir intermittently because you are all correct the thing sounds like a 747!!!

I hope this works for you as well as it did for me. Like I said the measurements are approximate as I just throw things in...lol.

FYI I grow the leeks and when they're ready to harvest I chop them up and put them in freezer bags they keep wonderfully in the freezer. You just break off a chunk whenever you want fresh leeks....
Good Luck
Bill
P.S. I live between Ann Arbor and Jackson Michigan

Jon...You've got a date!!!

I'll let you know when I get it :-) It sounds like it could be handy.

Bill,
Congrats on your find. I have been looking for one since Jon (Jetcone) posted about his Tapioca tragedy :-) That potatoe/leek soup sounds like a delicious recipe.

"There aren't a lot of them out there for the simple reason they weren't very popular mainly because they were very expensive when new." Pete, I have a Majestic catalogue, from 1969, which shows the Ronson C&S with a listed retail of $89.95/ their price $69.88. The only other blender that came close in price was the Oster 10 speed Cyclomatic at $60.80. Most of the other blenders average about $30! The Cook & Stir was the most expensive blender listed out of 13 blenders! I think that your theory is most likely correct!!

Rich

OK Jon!!!!

It has arrived. GOOD GOD...what a beast :-)

When is the cook-off?? What a great idea this thing is. I have to wonder why it didn't catch on. I know that it was expensive BUT... It's so handy. I don't find it that much noisier than most blenders, that I recall, from that era.

I'm gonna try that Leek soup!

Rich

MMMMMM.....

Leek soup sounds good, anything with potatoes in it sounds good to me.
I made cream of potato soup last night, I bet that would do ok in the cook-n-stir too!

Why thank you Rich!

We'll have tro see what we can do about that!

Um the same goes for you & Chuck too, door is open here as well!
