I love good rooibos but it seems to vary a lot. It is my main "cuppa" as I can't drink real coffee or black tea. (I do drink decaf coffee, one cup a day.) I drink one or two cups of rooibos a day, hot and black, no milk or sugar.
There is one brand of rooibos tea bags here in Australia, called Just Rooibos African Tea, which I have preferred for years. At its best it has a slight almond taste so I can understand it being called "nutty". But even my preferred brand varies a lot, at times it is quite bland and lifeless. They seem to have a bad batch in stores at present, I am on my second box of this batch number and it is flavourless. I am watching the batch numbers in supermarkets, I won't buy it again until the batch number changes. There is a gourmet tea supplier in Geelong who has loose leaf rooibos in bulk, I might get some of that next.
A few years ago, when on holiday in New Zealand, I bought some Red Seal rooibos tea bags. It was the worst I have ever tasted, it smelled like vomit. Funny because Red Seal make some other herbals tea blends I really like, and their "Alpine Tea" despite its fancy sounding name, is an excellent laxative.
In Australia there a couple of brands of "rooibos tea with vanilla" which ruins the taste for me, too sweet. I love vanilla and love rooibos but they are a bad combination.
Kromland Farm from the UK have a few "rooibos plus..." blends, I like the rooibos plus honeybush which is another South African herb.
