Let's just focus

On cleaning up the mess that 12 years of Republican control in Congress and eight years of the younger Bush have left us.

That means ignoring numnutz like Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, O'Reilly, Malkin.

It's easy enough to delete the Fox channel from your TV...

Time to ignore the children... the adults have work to do!

Ahh, yes Rich...Censorship

Pretty amusing, Rich. Your suggestion is exactly what Limbaugh has said 'the left' proposes to deal with critical messages. You certainly don't want to expose people to a critical point of view -- they should, instead, just give Obama a pass and follow blindly. I think I understand.

The Republican Party was badly spanked in the last two elections, but it still hasn't gotten the message. Democrats have already begun to rebuild their party, now it's the Republicans turn. But instead of fixing the problem -- and they know perfectly well what the problem is -- they've begun to crank up the reactionary rhetoric and hatred. Here in California the Republican Party is virtually extinct, as it is in New England and elsewhere (see link).

On top of this, the Western World is in the midst of an economic collapse, the extent of which no one knows.

We know from history that a failed and morally bankrupt political party, and economic failure combine to create a VERY dangerous situation, one that has produced most of the world's fascist leaders and movements. Listen to Limbaugh, Coulter, Savage, Beck, Hannity etc and it's all the same seething pool of resentment and hatred, which is getting deeper every day. In the interest of national security Obama needs to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine and force Roger Ailes ("Fox News") to either give equal time to the Democratic Party, or go off the air. That would at least be some kind of start. At this point Fox owes the Democrats nearly 20,000 hours of airtime.

Fairness Doctrine - Equal Time Rule

I think there is some misunderstanding and mixing of the Fairness Doctrine and the Equal Time Rule in these discussions. But with CNN and the gals on morning TV, etc., and all of the other outlets I am not seeing some message being quashed somewhere. Requiring FOX to give so-called "equal time" to another agenda is a misunderstanding of the doctrine and is a misunderstanding of the constitutional issues.

For heaven's sake, Americans have just elected a black enough president and have also indicated a willingness to elect the right woman. Etc. etc. So, I think we should be very weary of the censorship that many of y'all are proposing.

The message of this last election is that Christians of any color or gendeer could be elected president. Nons, of course, need not apply.

Mark, the point I was trying to make is that the message of conservatism has been quashed by Fox News as much, if not more than the message of liberalism. Only recently, with the election of Obama and possibility that the Fairness Doctrine will be reinstated, have we begun to regularly see actual conservatives on the channel, instead of one relentless stream of horribly narrow neoconservatives.

As others have pointed out, our country is moving on now, beyond endless and pointless partisanship, to fix our problems. Almost overnight Fox has become irrelevant, it's only purpose now is to foster hatred and division.

Oh good, solcialism and communism!!!! YAY!!! I don't need no money. Da guvement is gonna take care of all my needs!! I just hand over to them my paycheck and my house!!!

Jeff: "Almost overnight Fox has become irrelevant...&qu

But Jeff, if that is true, what is the problem? With more outlets for opinion than ever, why would you feel a need to require "equal time"(which, in the context, is neither fairness doctrine nor constitutional) from a targeted outlet when you believe it is irrelevant.

But let me tell y'all a little about where I am coming from: Among the 'entertaining' bombast, the guys most of y'all think are bozos are asking so-called journalists why they are not asking the right or the tough questions. When someone is given a pass, they are called on it.

Well, you don't have to be a republican or a democrat or a Christian or a non to feel there is merit in keeping 'journalists' challenged.

Obviously we are on notice that politicians of all color, gender, party, whatever, need to be questioned and challenged. It seems like it is just too easy to be distracted by greed, power, agenda, whatever.

Here in Nebraska a legislative bill bringing term limits was passed to take one man out of office. He is a black man. He was perhaps the most intelligent and hardest working legislator we had ever seen. He was a mentor to young senators and interns. But he was controversial and, arguably, obstructionist. He was anti death penalty. He was willing to lobby. And procedurally, the legisture didn't feel they could challenge him. So they went to "the (white)people" and had term limits passed.

But what I really valued about Senator Chambers was that he challenged "good old boys" when they were intellectually dishonest. And for that, I will put up with a lot of silliness.
