Rust stains...

I have a friend (now she's my roomie!) who lived with her grandparents for a number of years who have a well and no water softener... Her whites are all a touch orange from the iron in the water. I've managed to reduce the orange back to white on most everything but one of her shirts is particularly bad. Any tips to getting out rust? I could try the Iron Out stuff but I haven't had much luck with that and I'd rather not put something so harsh in my machines... Thanks!

once i've heard about lemon juice/citric acid.

Oxalic acid^

will do the trick, but is poisonous and needs must be used with the attendant care. I wouldn't keep it in the house if I had small kids.

Oxalic Acid is what I use here

very cheap and WORKS use 1/2 cup and warm water for 10 mins IT DOES WORK! IRON OUT `does a good job too if you use warm water and enough of it . Make sure you run the load after treatment with detergent and extra rinse.
