Rust starting on freezer shelf

We have a Kenmore refrigerator made by Haier in 2016. I noticed recently that the vinyl coated wire shelf in the freezer has a rust spot. Can anything be done to prevent from rusting further. It has the extended warranty on it, but I don't think it would be covered, and with Sears in questionable existence now I doubt we could do anything about it.

Otherwise we haven't had any issues. But our old Kenmore was from 1995 and never had issues with rusted racks.

If it brothers you remove shelf and clean and dry and touch up spot with a good touch-up paint.

 

Or ask Sears to send you a new shelf, if they don't cancel the stupid contract and ask for a refund.

 

If it is a Haier built ref it can't be a very big model, why would you buy a contract on it in the first place ?

maybe the vinyl touch up

made for dishwasher racks would work, it comes in white and blue.
lightly sand the spot and apply with the brush that comes in the bottle.
