years ago, almost bought a 1980 Fiat 131 "Brava":2 door,2.0 twin cam,5 speed. Engine had Bosch fuel injection.I know all about the rust and electrical problem potential, but thought it might be a delight to drive and liked the engine and the look of the car. also a '74 124 coupe was found, but to rusted to recover-I kept a bunch of parts including the pretty instrument panel :) Anyone here ever own one of these Fiats and can report if it was indeed nice to drive ? - really wondering if I "missed out"skipping over that Brava

'70s Fiats...

were a blast to drive, we had a '71 850 Spider, my B-I-L had a '77? Brava wagon, and for years I lusted after a '71 124 coupe and drove one once. They were the poor man's Alfa (we had a '66 Duetto once also). Great cars, but sadly they all rusted at the drop of a hat, especially in the NorthEast.

Darn, should have grabbed that Brava...:) Forgot to mention the Brava had tri-y,4-2-1 exhaust manifold for a nice, sporty 4 cyl sound-the 124 probably had this too.The badly rusted 74 124 coupe mentioned was in a junkyard wearing 1980 Minnesota plates,so was only on the road 6 years...

reply 3:

it was back in '95 when I was looking at the Brava, grabbed a '71 Saab 99 instead-should have got the Fiat too :) These days the only old Fiats in my area are 124 spiders seen here and there in the summer.X1/9S next most common sighting.
BTW the Saab 99,bought old and rusty, was a great car that i drove until~ 2012 then junked because rust got so bad-saved all the good parts;engine/tranny,wheels etc.:)

Back in the early 70's my Italian friend around the corner who's dad owned an Italian Importing company bought a new 1974 Fiat 124 Special T 4dr in aquamarine blue with a black interior. He always drove that thing like he was running the Mille Miglia. Hard cornering and braking, revving the snot out that little engine but it loved it! He had it a few years before Fiat bought it back like the rest of them for premature rust outs. Now trying to find one is almost impossible
