Much as we all like old appliances, cars, music and other items from the mid-century era, we should never forget how different that time was from our own in the case of civil rights. I stumbled upon this story of an Englishman who still has to disclose a conviction for having sex with another consenting man in 1959! Regardless of whether or not anyone pays attention to such a conviction today, it is still an affront to his dignity, and I hope his campaign to eliminate such records in Britain is successful. I shudder to even think of the number of people in similar situations here in the US.
