Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

the importance of BOL models

No, it doesn't have fancy lights, buttons or switches, (and in this case, barely a control panel) but it does wash clothes.

If it weren't for General Electric and other companies offering stripped down appliances such as this. there are many people who could not have afforded a washing machine at all.

We really shouldn't make fun of BOL models. No they aren't pretty, but they served a purposes. They have helped many families who struggled to get by.

I totally agree, Barry.

It just looks so stripped with no switches.

Clearly though, it's fulfilled it's "destiny" considering how worn it is.

Somebody did not have to wash by hand.

I like the simplicity that the bol models represent.

BOL machines like this always seemed to outlast their TOL cousins...

less parts to go wrong for one.....but its sort of an untold thought, in that running all these special cycles and lower water levels would lessen the lifespan of an automatic....

just like in laundromats, always best to wash full loads each time....

my mother would never let us wash anything but a full load, as the settings never changed load after load.....plus she always let the machine rest for about 20 minutes after each load, to sort of cool down.....not one to run load after load after load back to back.....

could be why the thing would never die, as much as I hoped for a new one...

all in all, theres a good base to work with from this unit....change out the control panel, and it will probably still continue to run for many years...

$275 ?

That's about what they went for NEW !

I bought a couple pair of these in the late 90s for some rental props. Got them new at Circuit City for $188 each. LOL. Remember CC ? Remember when they still sold appliances?

That signature looks like White consolidated.

Depending upon how BOL is a given BOL specimen, they have fewer electrical gadgets ... no separate water level control, temp control, speed selector, ATC thermistor, additional motor windings for multiple speeds, perhaps no solenoids for dispensers.

The basic construction and mechanicals -- cabinet, outer tub, inner basket, transmission, basket clutch/brake -- is essentially identical to a sibling higher-end model.
