Salt/Pepper Shakers

Over the course of the past 3 years I have experienced several life changes. Painful then, but all worth it today. I’m moving into a new home which means cleaning out while packing. I got these about 35 years ago. I suspected they probably came as an accessory to a stove/range. I noticed in the vintage appliance advertisement thread they are shown in post #1054740 for a Grand 1947 Range. These are not going to the new house; I had them in the box I’m giving to a friend for her flea market booth. After seeing the post I thought I might ask if anyone wants/needs them. I don’t know if they are commonly found or not. Anyway let me know; I’ll be happy to mail them to whomever. Tsk,mark

My aunt had a huge Florence gas & oil range and the S & P shakers looked exactly like those in their holder.

If it was a Westinghouse laundromat S&P shakers still in mint condition (not yellowed) I'd kill or die for them.

Years looking for those to be really used for it's purpose.

I have the chef

ones. My folks gave them to me. Are they Magic Chef ones, or Tappan? The hats and arms are pink, the shakers cream color.

The chef shakers were Tappan as I remember.

Unfortunately my shakers on the left and in the center are salt and pepper WASTERS...

They are hard to fill because you have to turn them over to where the fill caps are underneath... So just as much of the intended contents pour out as you’re pouring in...

Luckily with the ones on the right, the filling is done on top... So much easier and what you pour in stays in!

Unfortunately the bottom of the salt one got skewed from a fall (my wife took it and the matching pepper shaker off the table to put on our pantry shelf to clean the table, when she could have left them there and cleaned around them!)

We had a pair before those two on the right that were made from real small old liquor bottles (I forgot what kind of labels for were on, but got rid of, to get those better ones, which we got as a gift) but still have the ones from our wedding the left and center are (the white on the left came with a dish set) from...

<span style="font-size: 14pt; color: #008000;">I like those shakers. I could have had a ton of them when I was young "harvested" from the many ranges that were traded in. The back corner of the parking lot at the appliance store was a field of stuff that was replenished 5 days a week. Instead I wasted my time collecting those "how dry I am" xylophones from Westinghouse dryers...and they required a lot more work than salt & pepper shakers. I stopped when I had about 20 or so, now of course long gone.</span>

All you have to do to avoid wasting salt or pepper with shakers is hold the shaker with the holes tightly against the palm of your hand and pour in from the base. Don't release the shaker until it is upright with the cork in the hole and you won't lose more than a few grains. I learned this from my mother and her Fiesta shakers.
