There are tastes and tastes.
Luckily the market is full of options (from the cheapest BOL fridge that is just a square box that is cold inside to a high end fridge full of bells and whistles).
One thing that is really annoying is when you get something new, that you really wanted or like or coincidently you got for free thanks to the credit card points and there is always somebody laughing or trying to ridicularize the choice.
Come on guys. YOU don't like a fridge that has more electronic components than Apollo 11, great. You would buy it? GREAT, You have to buy (or get for free) the model YOU want that has the features YOU think are useful in YOUR house.
I personally HATE Speed Queen washers, but nobody ever saw me trying to ridicularize those that believe SQ is the best washer ever made.
Reliable, yes, it is (up to a certain point).
Better built? Hummm, most of it yes, but i have my doubts.
ANyway, I personally don't care if my fridge full of bells and whistles won't last 30 years. Deal with it! In 10 or 15 years a different model will have so many interesting features that the Samsung I love and want today will look like a BOL Haier.
And guess what. I didn't go knock any AWO member's door to ask for money to buy MY fridge or MY stove or MY microwave, or MY smart power outlet. Both my husband and I work very hard to afford the luxuries we want. And guess what. We will also have the Samsung washer and the dryer (those with mini top load units on the top), the magic chef 2.1 cu ft washer (i have the 1.6 cu ft and I love it but it's too small), the Magic chef washer-dryer combo (only to have the whole product line side by side in the laundry room) and also LG washer, LG dryer and LG washer-dryer combo (that one with square door, all matching), and 3 LG sidekick washers under each one of those. Why? Simply because my husband loves that model and I want him to have the pleasure of using them on his laundry day. I hate washer-dryers because they take forever to dry, but I'll do that only to see my husband happy. It's HIS taste, so let's get what HE wants exactly the same way we will get the kitchen appliances I want. Unfortunately we don't have a giant kitchen, otherwise we would also have a high end Viking or AGA stove and a walk in Sub Zero refrigerator.
About the kitchen appliances, i was going to get everything kitchenaid, but they look ridiculously "low end" and their stove doesn't even have a decent self cleaning cycle, just that "Aqualift" crap that does nothing more than my steam cleaner.
And to "match" the fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher, we will have two blenders. MY kitchenaid ultra expensive high end model to match a high end kitchenaid pro stand mixer, spresso maker, drip coffee maker, hand blender (all red, of course) and his Ninja blender. I love KA small appliances, he loves Ninja, so to avoid any discussions, we opted to double the appliances. We need all that? Definitely NOT! But we both will be happy using the appliances we like.
Do we need that much? Of course not! Nobody needs 2 or 3 stoves in the kitchen. But hello, this is AWO. is it really that strange for somebody here to have the appliances they want? Who needs more than one washing machine? AFAIK Robert, the webmaster has a basement with washers enough to compete with a small commercial laundry. Some people love vintage (Yes, I like vintage too and if someday I have the giant kitchen i want, next to the other high end stoves i mentioned above, i want a Frigidaire Flair too and a vintage KA dishwasher.) others love modern. I like both vintage and modern, for as daily drivers, I prefer modern and high end.
And things get obsolete. In 10 or 15 years I'll be praying for my Samsung fridge to die soon only to get rid of it and clear space for a new model will even more bells and whistles. it it survives, it won't be the daily driver anymore. maybe I can keep it or I can sell it or even give to a friend or donate to somebody that needs a fridge and can't afford.
And yes, if somebody wants to have the right to judge or make negative comments about the appliances I have, the person can start with that Bissell water filter canister vacuum cleaner/carpet/hard floor washer I want. It costs less than $200 at Walmart.com. As a second alternative, it can be the shark apex duoclean (TOL of course, available at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Buy it, have it shipped to my address and as soon as it is paid, the person that paid for it will automatically have a perpetual right to say it's a crap and my choice was ridiculous because only Kirbys are nice, Anybody else can just say "humm, not for me, thanks".
Ps. My dorbell was already installed. GE, wireless, i didn't have anything to do with the choice, but what a happy coincidence. My landlord chose a doorbell that has the "The Jetsons" doorbell sound. Oh, and the two ceiling fans have wireless remote controls.
