Were the comparable GEs made by Sanyo?  This looks "familiar".

I took a drive down to Chicago today to get this. Seems to work fine, cleaned up nice and got it for $50.

Probably similar design to the Hitachi built GEs but not the same washer...

 

These machines use a lot of water and yet have difficulty turning over large items and cleaning them uniformly they can be very hard on clothes as well, best of all they have a decent spin for a slightly vintage washer, and are fun to play with.
