Are we sure this isn't Barbara pushing George W. into the world?

Mayhem and Havoc in the Streets

Palin will be here today in Springfield to address her "loyal constituents", and hopefully make a fool out of herself. I certainly hope there will be a good number of Democratic protesters on hand to run this b*tch back to Alaska. ;)

Gyrafoam, I think you may have hit the nail on the head with that article. I have been wondering just why the pure hatred exists towards Sara Palin exists on this site. ...She's Christian, and based on many of the posts I have read in the past, Christianity ain't too popular in this place!

The vintage appliances I enjoy bring back warm memories of times past with relatives and friends in their homes...those times, and those people that were strong Christians, that lived during a time of limited government, and capitalist prosperity that allowed for a good life. I find it quite ironic that appliances that remind me of all these ideals are loved by ones that have such a hatred of religion and free enterprise. Lest us not forget, it was capitalism that brought us such wonderful technology in the first place!!!

So, why do I like Sara Palin? Well, I see a good mother in her that really loves her children and her family, and yes, I can see her preparing meals for her family in a warm, inviting kitchen among many things...something I cannot say about other politicians from both sides of the aisle.

Seriously--not to ruin your warm and fuzzy-----but

I think I am a fairly religious person,well---- spiritual anyway, and I have to wonder what the mother of a "special needs" infant is doing trying to run for such a large office?
Seems to me an infant such as hers needs waaaaay over and above the (normal) amount of care and attention------especially from its mother-----so I am thinking whats up with this? Like an ego trip gone bad, she can't let this opportunity pass her by, so the baby has to take what it can get?

I think most mothers would have said-----you know what-----I'm just going to have to let my career go for a while and stay close to my child. Anyway just my opinion on this matter.

You said it, Gyrafoam!

And there is nothing Christian about stirring up division, suspicion and hate!! How do we know she isnt as "Christian" as Bush or Strom Thurmond?? How do we KNOW she is a good mother or good Christian?? We dont. At least i dont, i havent spent anytime in her home or with her family.

Steve I agree with you completely and have thought the same from the time she stepped forward. I know how much time a child with those problems will take. It seems very unfair to the baby.

Perhaps she "knows" she will lose............. :-)

Seems more like SHE is running for the BIG office rather than he....

Ms. Palin has choices, her husband earns enough money to support the family perfectly well and there is no reason that her children, especially the baby needs to be shuffled back and forth between family, friends, nannies, etc. That baby does need all the love and attention he can get, the more the better in it's early development and who better to give that to him than his parents? Ask any doctor, child psychiatrist or developmental specialist and you'll likely get the same answer. Having two parents at home is becoming a luxury in the modern world when there was a time that "good Christian people" and especially WOMEN would have heaped scorn upon Ms. Palin and shouted her right out of the race. Where is that sense of obligation to family now? Why aren't "good Christian mothers" up in arms against this woman's choices? More than once I've heard one say that's it's "God's intention" for mothers to raise their children first, then think of themselves when that job is finished. Dr. Laura (I know, but still...) wrote a column the week Ms. Palin burst into the race condemning her and her husband for this choice to rob their children of one or likely both of their parents with her/their selfish choices. If you doubt the ability of Ms. Palin to be both a "good mother" and a hold down a demanding public position, just look at the state of her family now. When is her oldest daughter's baby due? Sure kids make mistakes, we all have, but it is also a warning sign to most parents that there is a need for more parenting in the family, not less.

Good mother? More like a role model for what NOT to be. But the ejacumenical base has proven themselves the worst kind of hypocrites by rallying behind her forsaking their espoused "family values", again. How quickly they ignore what might be best for the children. Their argument is that "we can't stand in judgement of her family and her choices" but don't forget, these are same people who would categorically deny the right for two people of the same sex to raise a child, simply because they believe it will anger their sky-god. Hypocrites!

and based on many of the posts I have read in the past, Christianity ain't too popular in this place!

Because respect is not a right, it is earned. For example, here is what the Religious Community is up to in California...

Christians....

I know that I stopped considering my self a christian or even religious when the pious religion group started telling everyone how to live. Many feel it is their duty to instruct and condemn any who do not believe as they do. Why?

To me it is a sick perverted " I am better then you because my god is the only one..." psychosis. To me Palin exemplifies all that is wrong with that thinking. May of these people are parrots, only repeating word for word what they are told. They would have more impact on me if there was ANY sort of cognitive reasoning going on behind their eyes.

To blindly accept religious teachings to me is the sign of a weak mind - to me that is Palin.

I don't hate Palin . . .

Or other Christians for that matter, but do object to the pandering that goes on between a certain small group of Christians and the Republican party. For Palin to tell James Dobson that "God will do the right thing" by presumably assuring that she and McCain win the election is pretty tasteless.

Here's an interesting link on the depths that some Christians will sink to in an attempt to vilify Obama and his campaign. As usual, there's a lot of fearmongering going on over the possibility that an Obama administration might advance gay rights a little.

Steven,

I suppose my personal animosity arose after the nastiness about my distinguishing between 'christianists' or Evangelical Republicans and Christians.
The attacks, the hateful and spiteful emails, the threats of physical violence, the denunciations to 'authorities', the viciousness with which some of the Christians around here 'proved' to me that I had no right to use the word christianist for people...exhibiting exactly their nasty behavior did nothing to make me feel good about them.
It also doesn't help matters that I have had the opportunity for the last 25 years to live in a culture which treats gays as human beings with full civil rights, including marriage. Obviously, I am not going to let anyone put me into the closet, strip me of my rights and confine me to non-human status. And that is exactly what the Evangelical Republicans, the christianists are now doing.
There are a large number of Christians on this website who don't threaten others with harm to their parents, who don't send nasty-o-grams.
But there are enough folks here who have made their hatred for all of us who don't follow their interpretation of the bible clear, it is not really a wonder that many of us have lost our patience.
Back when the killer queens were furious with me for saying, to me, 'gun control means using both hands', I really took it on the chin from the self-appointed arbitrators of leftist politics. Back when I, a vegetarian, said I had no problem with hunters bagging their limit and donating the game to food banks, well, quite a few of the ladies got the vapors. When I admitted as that I hold the mink to be a vicious rat in a nice coat and have no problem with leather and fur...well, gracious me oh my. But none of these queens, and believe me, they do not like me, threatened me, wished my parents physical harm, sent me emails containing the sort of language you'd expect from a sufferer of Tourret's syndrome.... Nope, they disagreed, loudly...but we still work together.
Just as you and I work together. Our only agreement is that the US Constitution is the best work civilization has ever brought forth...but you have distinguish between my opinions and me.
Other conservatives here have also refrained from ad hominem attacks. Unfortunately, too many on the 'right' have just plain been so nasty, is it really a surprise that folks are pushing back? It has not been easy to acknowledge that I have lost the ability to distinguish between the nasty folks on the right and the non-nasty. That's why I have withdrawn from political commentary until after the election. Of course, I don't go around wishing people a death in agony, either...as some here have done.
It is hard, I am certain, for those here who feel their Christian beliefs are under attack. I regret that. For those of us receiving nasty-o-grams wishing us death in agony because we are not Christians in the way the christianists demand we be...well, when that's how we are being treated, is it surprising we aren't all that pleased?
I tried to distinguish between the two groups with the term 'christianist' or Evangelical Republican. Didn't help, the attacks just increased exponentially.
At this point, I don't know what to do...except to note that neither the Wiccans, the Jews nor the Jewish Wiccans around here are attacking people. Maybe the Christian right could learn something from them?
