Hello all,

Are satin ball ornaments made anymore? I haven't been able to find any in-store but I wasn't sure whether they were just unpopular or not even made anymore. We had them when I was a kid and while I HATED the fact that they would pull and snag so easily I loved the muted glow they had when on the tree! Did any of you like to use them too?

By our neighbor's second Christmas they had 6 cats so they switched to an artificial tree, miniature lights and satin balls (that would be a good name for a gentle depilatory). We were given the bubble lights!

We accumulated some satin fabric balls but had many more of the satin-finish glass ones. I can't remember if my brother used hair spray or some other spray adhesive to put loose strands back in place, but they all looked great.

I've never heard of bubble lights, I'll have to look them up. My mom wasn't big on decorating for holidays, she felt it was a waste of time and money so my grandma always went overboard doing up her house for us kids.

Thanks Tennblondie, Id seen the ones on eBay but they all say some of them have snags and such on em so I was a little bummed but that other link is great! Thanks again!

We had those! FOr a few years we had a flocked Christmas tree and one year it had all red satin balls on it, the next year my mother bought blue satin balls for it.
Instead of having lights in the tree they used a white floodlight on it.

The thing I remember most about those satin ornaments is that they would stick to my fingers when my skin was dried out by winter dryness. This must have been around 1963 or so.

Glad I could help, Andi! :) I love the satin balls, too. Bubble lights are the greatest! I have the Cristopher Radko bubble light candolier that is now discontinued and sells for a fortune on eBay. It is one of my favorite things at Christmas. Now if I could only get a real vintage aluminum tree I would be in heaven! I have a 6' silver tinsel one now, but it isn't the same.

Sorry to take so long to respond!

A few years ago while going through my grandmothers things, I came across an aluminum tree. I was going to throw it out because the colored light was missing or broken, I can't remember which but I ended up keeping it. I think I will try to replace the light and set it up this year.

Dollar Tree...

.... carried the satin ornaments last year. They were packed in plastic tubes of 6 or 8 iirc. They were average in size, not tiny. $1.00 a tube. They were on the shelves below the plastic holiday greenery.
