Since the 70's I've had 2 Maytag disposals. Many years ago I replaced the shredder ring in the original unit, then when I remodeled the kitchen I replaced it with the same model. Well it's 25+ years later and the disposal is still working pretty well but having a bit harder of a time grinding stuff up. There has been a NOS shredder ring on eBay for some time. Kept an eye on it, not sure if I wanted a new disposal or just to fix this one. Ebay sent me a $25 gift for their anniversary, been a member since '99, so I used it on the shredder, got it for $39 after the coupon.

I'm close to replacing my countertops with some Corian tops I bought from a kitchen display. They will have to be reworked, but Corian is supposed to be easy to seam, I guess I'll find out. the tops have a very nice deep sink integrated, I much prefer cast iron but the integrated one is quite nice, can always swap it out in the future if need be.

I loved the Maytag FC-5 disposal that we installed when we remodeled the kitchen in our first home back in 1990.  I would have another one in a heartbeat if I could find one.

Matt, I don't blame you one bit for keeping yours going.  $39 was a steal.  You can't find anything new today -- or even old, for that matter -- that compares.

Yeah, agree.   I do have the older one tucked in the garage attic just in case.  Need to get a new splash guard, hate to pay $25 for a piece of rubber but when I do the shredder I'll get one.

Oh yeah, a removable splash guard.  What a concept!  I wonder if any modern disposers have them.  That would be a requirement for me when it comes time to replace the cheap ISE under my sink.  I guess I should count my blessings that the former owner of my house didn't go with Gaggeneau for that, too -- likely because nobody would ever notice it.

REAL Maytag disposal for me-still going-chews stuff up like noting else. These were made to last a long time-and repairable if need be.The cast shredder is so much better than the stampted ones that wear out faster. The stampted shredder teeth can get bent from a large bone or if a piece of silverware gets into the disposer.

So you bought that Shredder ring. I was wondering when that was going to get gone. I have been telling folks around here about it for a year.
I paid the 70 bucks when I bought it from the same guy I think.
I have been looking everywhere for a Maytag splash guard for my disposer. I have a
Maytag FB-20 I think.
Mine is really old though, I have had about 4 of those disposers and the one I have now has a odd Alloy flywheel . The others I had where just stainless steel but worked great.
This one has the rind flippers and everything cast into the flywheel.

I was wondering does anybody know where I could find a Splash guard for it?
That was the best design I have ever seen, nothing got out and water drained quick.
I guess the rest is just nostalgia.
If anybody has any ideas where please hit me up.
