May be looking to purchase a new portable dishwasher in the future and wanted to find out opinions as to which is the better model of the two machines listed above. Both have mechanical controls.

I cannot say for certain who the supplier of the Kenmoer is. It looks like it's a DuraWash sytem style made by Whirlpool. It's ok. It has a tower that pops up to spray the upper rack. The GE is similar, but it looks like the tower pops up and sprays water into a wash arm under the top rack, which may be better coverage. I thinhk they're about equal. See which one looks like it will hold more stuff in it. My vote is for the GE.

Thanks. We had a 1983 D&M made Kenmore portable(three level wash arms, water heat) that hadn't been used in several years. My dad thought the old dishwasher wasted water and that we weren't dirtying enough dishes to run it often enough(3 adults in household, hand wash pots and pans)and he refused to use it after awhile. It was in very bad shape from disuse, had a leak around the pump seal and door gasket, and many parts were NLA. We got rid of it recently.

Complicating our decision is the fact we have a PUR filter on the faucet. PUR says that the filter must be removed each time you want to attach the dishwasher aerator and replace the filter when you are finished.I figure that could get annoying after awhile. However,we have a space between the refrigerator and a wall about 28 inches wide where the washer used to be,so we have hot water,an outlet on it's own circuit, and a drain. Also a door would open towards it.To load it,the door would have to be closed. If we do get another, can I purchase a built-in conversion kit,a dishwasher tee and p-trap to permanently connect it there? Or should we look at leaving it portable? We can't use a built-in(no space).
